The city is distributing 2,500 pounds of shredded paper to office buildings along the route, and paper and confetti drops are coordinated across roughly 22 buildings lining the Canyon of Heroes, according to Gothamist. The Canyon of Heroes — the stretch of Broadway between Battery Park and City Hall — has hosted every major ticker-tape parade in New York's history, from returning astronauts to World Series champions. This is the first such parade for the Knicks franchise.

The municipal resource commitment here is not trivial. Construction embargoes carry real cost to contractors who must idle crews and equipment; ferry schedule expansions require overtime staffing; and a coordinated 2,500-pound paper distribution across 22 private buildings requires advance logistics with property managers up and down Broadway. None of that happens without a city administration that has decided the event warrants full operational mobilization.

For a franchise that last won an NBA title in 1973 — fifty-three years ago — the civic response is proportionate to the wait. The Canyon of Heroes has seen 208 parades since 1886, but the Knicks have never been among the honorees. Thursday changes that.
