SiMa.ai Raises $150M at $1.45B to Push AI to the Edge

SiMa.ai Technologies Inc has closed a $150 million Series C at a $1.45 billion valuation. The company announced the financing on September 28, 2026, from San Jose, California. TechCrunch
The round was co-led by Fidelity Management & Research Company and Amplify. Participation included Alter Venture Partners, Dell Technologies Capital and StepStone Group.
SiMa.ai was founded in 2018 by Krishna Rangasayee, previously COO of chipmaker Groq. The company operates as a US-India AI platform company focused on Physical AI. Its core thesis is silicon plus software that lets robots, drones, cameras and other devices run AI directly on the device, without round-tripping to the cloud for inference.
The stack spans both layers. Palette Neat is described as an agentic software development environment for physical AI applications. On hardware, the Modalix DevKit is a system-on-module providing a full ML pipeline with 50 TOPS at sub-10W. Power is the constraint. That power envelope puts the part squarely in the battery-powered and thermally limited domain where edge inference lives or dies.
Total capital raised now exceeds $500 million. The step-up is sharp. SiMa.ai raised an $85 million Series B in July 2025 at a $960 million valuation, putting the Series C roughly 50% higher on valuation in just over a year.
The financing history traces a steady accumulation. SiMa.ai raised $70 million in a round led by Maverick Capital, and earlier extended its oversubscribed Series B1 funding to $67 million. MSD Partners invested at a point when total investment reached $187 million. The company also raised an additional $13 million from investors including Taiwan-based VentureTech Alliance. Bloomberg
The stated use for the new capital is to scale Physical AI in humanoids, automotive and drones. The company distributed the announcement as a Business Wire press release titled 'SiMa.ai Reaches $1.45B Valuation with $500 Million in Total Funding to Scale Physical AI in Humanoids, Automotive and Drones'. The broader context here is the shift in where inference runs. Cloud training still dominates headlines, but deployment in robotics and vehicles turns on deterministic latency, power efficiency and the ability to run multimodal pipelines on device. A 50 TOPS, sub-10W SoM does not compete with data-center accelerators. It competes with the decision to send frames and lidar returns off device at all.
In my view, the investor mix is as instructive as the valuation. A co-lead from Fidelity alongside Amplify, with Dell Technologies Capital and StepStone participating, points to a company being underwritten less as a pure silicon bet and more as a full-stack edge platform. Chip startups live or die on software onboarding, toolchain maturity and time to first working pipeline. An agentic development environment is a direct response to that bottleneck, lowering integration cost for teams that do not have compiler engineers in house.
Worth flagging is what this does not change. Tapeouts, qualification cycles and automotive design wins still move on multi-year clocks. Funding extends runway and hiring capacity. It does not shorten those cycles by itself. What it does enable is broader deployment work across humanoids and drones, categories where form factor and power budget leave little room for host-side compute.
