Netflix Delivers In-Line Q3: $12.9 Billion Revenue, 34.6% Margin as Growth Cools

Netflix reported Q3 2026 revenue of $12.9 billion, up 12% year over year and 11% on an F/X-neutral basis, with operating margin of 34.6%. The company said the result was consistent with its forecast in its third-quarter shareholder letter published Oct. 20, 2026. Shareholder Letter
The print landed just above sell-side expectations heading into the release. Analysts forecast sales would increase 11.8% to $12.87 billion, according to Reuters on Oct. 19, in what was framed as the slowest third-quarter revenue growth in three years. Reuters Consensus looked for $0.82 in earnings per share ahead of the report, as reported by Yahoo Finance on Oct. 20. Yahoo Finance
The outcome tracks the framework Netflix laid out in July. In its second-quarter shareholder letter, the company forecast Q3 revenue growth of 12% (11% F/X neutral) driven by growth in memberships, pricing and ad revenue. Q2 Shareholder Letter For the full year, the January guidance called for 2026 revenue of $50.7 billion to $51.7 billion, up 12%-14% year over year, with ad revenue expected to roughly double and operating margin of 31.5%. Q4 2025 Shareholder Letter The company had listed its Third Quarter 2026 Earnings Interview for Oct. 20, 2026.
Market positioning into the print was defensive. Netflix stock was down roughly 25% in 2026 ahead of Q3 earnings. The April quarter had reset expectations when shares tumbled the most in six months after its second-quarter forecast fell short of analysts' expectations, as reported by Bloomberg on April 16. Bloomberg A Reuters video report dated to Oct. 15 described an earnings forecast disappointing Wall Street with shares tumbling. Reuters Video That undated video source carries lower weight than the Oct. 20 shareholder letter and the Oct. 19 preview.
Engagement was the other axis of scrutiny. Reuters noted ahead of the report that Netflix faced questions on user engagement. Netflix measures engagement by Views, defined as total hours viewed divided by runtime. Netflix Its engagement report lists hours viewed for every original and licensed title watched for over 50,000 hours, a disclosure regime first detailed in December 2023 that referenced nearly 100 billion hours viewed. Netflix The company later reported over 95 billion hours viewed in the first half of 2025. Netflix For high-frequency tracking, Netflix measures its weekly Top 10 by hours viewed from Monday to Sunday, with lists published on Tuesday. Netflix
Ads remain central to the forward mix. Netflix Ads was in its fourth year in Japan at the time of the company's Japan Ads report on Oct. 7. Netflix
The broader context here is margin structure versus topline deceleration. Q3 operating margin of 34.6% sits 310 basis points above the full-year guide of 31.5% issued in January. That spread matters. It indicates the degree of operating leverage Netflix is extracting from membership, pricing and ads even as headline revenue growth cools to low double digits. The question is durability. Pricing and ads can expand contribution margin without commensurate content cash cost in-quarter, but both levers interact with churn and engagement intensity.
Looking at what this means for modeling, composition matters more than the $30 million delta to the $12.87 billion consensus revenue figure. If F/X-neutral growth of 11% was delivered as guided, currency provided roughly a 100-basis-point tailwind in the quarter. The full-year revenue range of $50.7 billion to $51.7 billion already embedded ad revenue roughly doubling. With Q3 in line, attention shifts to Q4 seasonality, net adds sensitivity to price increases, and whether ad-tier scale can sustain incremental margin. The 25% year-to-date drawdown suggests the market had already discounted slower Q3 growth. In that setup, an in-line topline with elevated margin does not resolve the engagement debate. It sharpens it, because sustained pricing power without hours growth compresses the valuation cushion.
