Poinpy Returns to Mobile as a Free, Ad-Free Release After Netflix Delisting

Poinpy, the vertically-scrolling platformer from Downwell creator Ojiro Fumoto, is back on mobile as a completely free download with no microtransactions and no ads. The game is now available on iOS via the Apple App Store and on Android via Google Play, published by Devolver Digital Engadget.

The relaunch follows Poinpy's removal from Netflix's game lineup in June 2025, roughly three years after it debuted in 2022 as a mobile exclusive for Netflix subscribers. At the time of delisting, Devolver Digital stated it hoped to bring the game to other platforms in the future Engadget. The current release makes good on that intention, though it arrives on the same mobile storefronts rather than new platforms like PC or console.

Poinpy is a vertical climber in which the player jumps upward through procedurally generated environments, collecting fruit to make juice for a pursuing beast. The core loop is one of constant upward momentum: stop climbing and the beast catches you. Devolver Digital's official game page describes the experience as one where players "must keep going higher because new and more challenging areas await" Devolver Digital. The game also includes a puzzle mode unlockable by finding a hidden area within the game, and an endless mode that opens up after completing the main game Devolver Digital.

The monetization model is unusual for a mobile release in 2026. There are no in-app purchases, no ad-supported tiers, and no subscription gate. Instead, Poinpy includes an in-game option for players to send a tip directly to developer Ojiro Fumoto Engadget. The tip model echoes approaches seen in indie PC releases more than mobile, where the dominant revenue patterns remain free-to-play with microtransactions or ad interstitials.

Poinpy carries some weight in Devolver Digital's portfolio. The studio's 2022 Annual Report listed Poinpy alongside Cult of the Lamb under multiple award category headings including "Best of 2022" and "Game of the Year" Devolver Digital Investor Relations. For a title that lived behind a subscription paywall for its entire initial run, that level of recognition suggests the game found an audience despite its distribution constraints.

Devolver Digital confirmed the free release via its official TikTok account, posting that Poinpy is available on both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store TikTok.

The broader context worth weighing here is what this release signals about the afterlife of subscription-locked games. Netflix invested in a slate of mobile titles tied to its subscriber base, and Poinpy was among the more critically regarded entries in that lineup. Its removal from the service in 2025 left a well-reviewed game without a distribution channel. Devolver Digital's decision to re-release it as a free, tip-supported title rather than a paid download or a re-locked subscription exclusive is a data point, however narrow, in how publishers might handle similar situations: prioritize getting the game back into players' hands over recovering a specific revenue model.

For Fumoto, the tip-supported free release also removes friction. Anyone curious about the game can try it at no cost. Whether enough players will opt into voluntary tipping to make the model sustainable is a separate question, and one this release alone cannot answer. But the approach does align with a broader indie ethos that treats direct player-to-developer support as a viable, if unproven, revenue path.

Poinpy is available now on both major mobile platforms.
