DJI Mic Mini 2S Brings 32-Bit Float Recording to Its Compact Wireless Mic Lineup

DJI's Mic Mini 2S is the first model in the Mic Mini lineup to offer 32-bit float internal audio recording, a format that eliminates clipping even when recording levels are set too high. Each transmitter carries 14.5GB of built-in storage, enough for roughly 28 hours of 24-bit audio or about 21 hours of 32-bit float audio (Engadget).
The recording format can be set to 24-bit or 32-bit float via the receiver, the DJI Mimo app, or connected DJI OsmoAudio devices, with 24-bit as the default (DJI Support). For anyone who has ever lost an interview to an unexpected loud moment, the practical appeal of 32-bit float needs little explanation. The format captures an enormous dynamic range at the ADC stage, meaning gain staging becomes a post-production decision rather than a live one. That this is now available in a 12-gram transmitter is worth noting.
Physically, the Mic Mini 2S is nearly identical to its predecessor, the Mic Mini 2. The transmitters weigh 12 grams, up one gram from the earlier model. The device can function as a phone microphone or as an on-camera lavalier (DJI).
The feature set extends well beyond the recording format. The Mic Mini 2S offers two tiers of AI noise cancellation, labeled Basic and Strong, along with Clipping Control, Loudness Balance for audio normalization, and three tone presets: Regular, Bright, and Rich. A single receiver can connect to up to four transmitters simultaneously, which opens multi-subject recording configurations without requiring a second receiver unit.
Compatibility is broad. The Mic Mini 2S works with previous-generation DJI mics including the Mic 2, Mic 3, Mic Mini, and Mic Mini 2. Transmitters connect natively to select DJI cameras via OsmoAudio Direct Connection, covering the Osmo Pocket 4P, Osmo Pocket 4, Osmo 360, Osmo Nano, and Osmo Action 6. The receiver also connects to any mirrorless or other camera with a 3.5mm mic input, or to smartphones via an included adapter.
Power management centers on a 1,950mAh charging case that charges two transmitters and a receiver approximately 3.2 times over a roughly two-hour charging cycle. DJI rates the total operating time at about 42 hours when leveraging the case across multiple recharge cycles.
Looking at what this means in practice, the Mic Mini 2S sits at an interesting intersection. The 32-bit float capability, until recently the domain of larger professional recorders and higher-end wireless systems from companies like Sound Devices and Zoom, is now arriving in an ultralight form factor aimed at creators and mobile journalists. The 14.5GB of internal storage per transmitter is generous for the use cases this device targets; 21 hours of float audio in a 12-gram package would have been difficult to specify even two years ago.
The four-transmitter-to-one-receiver ratio is also notable. Multi-channel wireless audio at this size and price tier has typically required compromises, either in channel count or in form factor. DJI's ecosystem approach, tying the mic to its Osmo camera line via OsmoAudio Direct Connection while maintaining 3.5mm and smartphone connectivity, positions the Mic Mini 2S as a flexible tool rather than a captive accessory.
The one-gram weight increase over the Mic Mini 2 is negligible in practical terms but signals that the internal hardware, likely the storage and possibly the ADC, required physical changes. DJI has not detailed the specific component differences, and the near-identical exterior suggests the engineering effort went into internals rather than industrial design.
For working creators already invested in DJI's Osmo ecosystem, the Mic Mini 2S tightens the integration loop considerably. For those using third-party cameras, the 3.5mm output and broad backward compatibility keep it accessible. The addition of 32-bit float recording removes one of the most common failure modes in run-and-gun audio capture, and that alone may justify the upgrade for users who have lost takes to clipping.
