Bluesky Now Lets You Hide Reposts from Specific People

Bluesky has added two new features: the ability to hide reposts from specific accounts in your feed, and a beta feature that automatically numbers posts within threads. Both were announced on August 10, 2026 The Verge.

To hide someone's reposts, you go to that person's profile page and click the three-dot menu. There you will find an option labeled "Hide reposts in feeds." Once you select it, reposts from that account stop showing up in your feed. The control works one account at a time, so you can quiet reposts from one person without turning off reposts from everyone.

The thread-numbering feature is still in testing. It automatically adds a number to each post in a thread, so readers can tell what order the posts go in. You can turn it on from Bluesky's settings menu.

The repost-hiding feature responds to a request from the community. Bluesky's code repository on GitHub includes issue #1116, opened on August 6, 2023, asking for the ability to hide reposts and quote posts from specific accounts GitHub. The feature as released covers reposts but not quote posts, which the original request also included.

Think of reposts like a friend who keeps forwarding you articles. One or two is fine, but if they forward dozens a day, the things you actually want to see get buried. Most social platforms either let you turn off all reposts or give you no control at all. Bluesky's approach lets you quiet just the most frequent forwarders without unfollowing them entirely.

The three-year gap between the original request and the finished feature is worth noting. Bluesky is built on a system called the AT Protocol, which is federated — meaning the network runs across many servers rather than being controlled by one company. That setup makes feed controls harder to build, because a filter that works in one app might not carry over to another. The underlying system has to consistently respect your choice to hide certain content. That likely played a role in the timeline, though Bluesky has not said so directly.

The thread-numbering feature is a smaller but useful addition. When someone writes a long series of posts — like a breaking-news update or a detailed argument — it is easy to lose track of the order, especially if a single post gets shared on its own. Automatic numbering helps readers see where each post fits in the sequence.

Both features arrive as Bluesky continues to improve how feeds and threads work. The repost-hiding tool, in particular, gives users something most other platforms have not offered at this level, and it addresses a complaint that has been in Bluesky's own issue tracker since the platform's early days. Whether the feature will eventually cover quote posts, as the original request proposed, is an open question.
