Salesforce announced on June 15, 2026, that it is buying Fin, an artificial intelligence company, for about $3.6 billion. Fin builds technology that lets AI systems handle customer service tasks on their own, without asking a human for permission at each step.

Salesforce sells software that helps businesses manage customer relationships and sales. By acquiring Fin, Salesforce is adding AI agents — essentially digital workers that can handle routine customer interactions like answering questions or processing requests without constant human supervision.

Salesforce has bought several large companies before, paying more than $15 billion each for some of them. So $3.6 billion, while expensive by everyday standards, is actually modest compared to those previous deals. But this purchase marks a shift in what Salesforce cares about. Earlier acquisitions were about connecting different software systems or creating better ways to display information. This one is about getting AI systems that can actually do work, not just show results on a screen.

Right now, many businesses are trying to figure out where autonomous AI agents fit best in their technology setup. Should they live in the customer relationship system, the data warehouse, or somewhere else entirely. Salesforce is saying that customer relationship software is the right place — because that is where companies keep all their information about who their customers are and what they have bought.

The hard part comes next. Salesforce will need to blend Fin's technology with its own AI systems smoothly, so that developers who build on top of Salesforce do not get confused by conflicting tools or processes. When large tech companies buy smaller AI companies, the integration often runs into trouble. The two teams may have very different ways of building and deploying software. The next year and a half will reveal whether Salesforce can pull this off or whether Fin gets gradually absorbed into Salesforce's existing products under a new name.

The deal is still subject to final regulatory approval and other standard conditions. Once those are cleared, the acquisition will be complete.
