Sony's Big PlayStation Show: Every Game and Date Announced

Sony held two PlayStation video showcases back-to-back on September 3, 2026. The first was in English for a worldwide audience, and the second was a separate Japanese-language show called State of Play Japan. The first show began at 6 AM PT / 9 AM ET / 3 PM CEST / 10 PM JST, with the second following immediately after 10:00 PM PT, according to Sony's PlayStation Blog and GameSpot. Together, the two shows revealed new games, add-on content, a movie, and even a Lego set.
Marvel's Wolverine, made by Insomniac Games, comes to PlayStation 5 on September 15. The Resident Evil movie, directed by Zach Cregger, arrives in theaters on September 18, just three days later. With a major video game and a film from a related franchise both landing the same week, Sony's entertainment lineup for mid-September covers both interactive and cinematic releases. Engadget
Ghost of Yōtei received the biggest content update of the broadcast. A new mode called Most Wanted lets players control Jin Sakai, the main character from the earlier game Ghost of Tsushima. The mode is a "roguelike" — a type of game where each time you play, the challenges are rearranged, and when your character dies, you start over from the beginning. A paid story expansion and a complete edition both arrive on October 1, with the complete edition including a new story. Engadget
The decision to bring Jin Sakai into Ghost of Yōtei's new mode is a notable crossover. Ghost of Tsushima and Ghost of Yōtei are separate games with different settings and main characters, so having Jin appear in a combat-survival context connects the two in a way that goes beyond the story. Whether this points to more character-sharing between Sucker Punch's games in the future isn't addressed in the announcement, but the pattern is worth watching.
Several games from other publishers also got release dates. Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance, an expansion for Monster Hunter Wilds, is expected sometime next year, with attendees at Tokyo Game Show getting the first public demo. Metro 2039, from developer 4A Games and publisher Deep Silver, launches on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC on February 4. Maneater 2, a sequel to the 2020 shark action game, is set for release next year. Gundam Rogue Orbit, an action game, arrives on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S on March 5. Engadget
Crimson Desert will receive an expansion called Charting the Unknown on October 15. The base game launched on March 19 and was among the first titles to use Sony's upgraded PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, or PSSR — a technology for the PS5 Pro that uses artificial intelligence to make games look sharper and run more smoothly by upscaling lower-resolution images to higher quality. The upgraded PSSR has been rolling out to games including Silent Hill f, Monster Hunter Wilds, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, and Crimson Desert since March, per the PlayStation Blog. Final Fantasy Resonance is described as the first HD-2D game in the Final Fantasy franchise. It's a turn-based title — meaning players take turns making moves rather than fighting in real time — and it releases on October 22. A playable demo came out the same day as the broadcast. The HD-2D style combines flat, pixel-art characters with detailed 3D backgrounds and modern lighting effects, an approach previously seen in games like Octopath Traveler and Triangle Strategy. Using it for a major franchise like Final Fantasy signals that Square Enix sees this visual style as a worthwhile middle ground between old-school pixel art and fully 3D graphics. Engadget
The video game Resonant launches on PS5 on September 24, per Sony's State of Play tag page. PlayStation Blog
Outside of games, Lego revealed a PlayStation 1 brick-building set priced at $180, available on October 1. The set joins a growing line of gaming-themed Lego products. Engadget
The two-show format is worth noting on its own. Sony has used State of Play as an occasional broadcast since 2019, with varying frequency and scope. The February 12, 2026 State of Play, for example, was a single show focused on Ghost of Yōtei. Splitting September's edition into a global English broadcast and a Japan-specific follow-up lets Sony tailor content to two different audiences. The Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance demo reveal appearing in the Japan stream rather than the main broadcast is an example of that approach working as intended. PlayStation Blog
The release schedule from September through early March is packed: Wolverine on September 15, the Resident Evil film on September 18, Resonant on September 24, Ghost of Yōtei's content update and the Lego PS1 set on October 1, Crimson Desert's expansion on October 15, Final Fantasy Resonance on October 22, Metro 2039 on February 4, and Gundam Rogue Orbit on March 5. That is a steady stream of exclusive games, multiplatform titles, add-on content, and physical merchandise. For a game console in the second half of its generation, the lineup is strong.
