Blizzard plans to release Diablo V in spring 2029. The company shared that date range at BlizzCon, more than two years before release Engadget.

The game is being made by Blizzard Entertainment, which is part of Xbox Variety. Blizzard announced it at BlizzCon 2026 Nintendo Life. The story continues after Diablo IV.

Blizzard also said a Diablo animated series is being made with Netflix. No release date and no animation studio have been shared for the series.

Blizzard also mentioned possible similar shows for Overwatch and Warcraft, without details on type, timing or partners.

In my view, announcing so early is mostly about planning. A spring 2029 date shared in September 2026 gives teams about two and a half years to get ready. That includes outside studios, translation teams and console testing, plus the staff who keep updating the current game with new seasons. It also means updates to Diablo IV are not treated as clues that the sequel is near.

The broader context here is building one story world for both players and viewers, like a book and a film set in the same place. The game and the show can share art, characters and background story. Game files cannot be reused directly for TV, but drawings, creatures and world design can. Starting the show early gives Blizzard the choice to release them close together or spaced apart.

Worth flagging is the technical setup, though the facts shared so far do not settle it. As part of Xbox, Blizzard will need to test the game on console and PC, make sure people on different systems can play together, and prepare servers for many players at once. Early notice helps with hiring for support, cheat protection and launch-day systems. If it works, players get a clearer and more connected world to enjoy.
