DOOM: The Dark Ages Is Now $50 for Good

id Software has permanently lowered the price of DOOM: The Dark Ages to $50. Engadget
The new $49.99 price is for the Standard Edition. It is the normal price from now on, not a short sale. That helps shoppers who wait for sales to plan.
At the same time, id Software updated the Doom Anthology bundle to include the Premium edition of DOOM: The Dark Ages. That Premium edition includes Revelations, extra game content you download. If you already owned the old Anthology, you will not get the new game added for free. You keep the version you bought.
The new Anthology is only for PlayStation 5, Steam, and Xbox Series X/S. It is not for other stores or older game machines.
Xbox lists three prices. Xbox Store Standard is $49.99 and up, Premium is $99.99 and up, and the Premium Upgrade is $34.99. The same page says the game is included with Xbox Game Pass Premium and Ultimate, and you can play it over the cloud, which means streaming it over the internet without downloading the full game.
The base game came out May 14, 2025. It is a single-player game with a dark fantasy and sci-fi setting. Steam Xbox calls it a story that comes before DOOM (2016), while Steam pages also call it a story that comes before DOOM Eternal. Revelations is an add-on with more story missions. Steam It adds a weapon called the Chain Spear. Steam notes also say Update 2 is out now and adds the Ripatorium.
This is not the first price drop. Best Buy cut the PS5 and Xbox versions by 50% in its Year-End Sale, saving $35. IGN That was one store, for a short time in December 2025. This new price changes the normal price.
The broader context here is how big story games are priced over time. Short sales bring buyers in early. A lasting cut invites in people who waited. Think of it like basic and deluxe tickets. The $50 game lowers the first step, while the $99.99 Premium and $34.99 upgrade keep options for people who want more.
In my view, the bundle choice says a lot. A bundle is like a boxed set. It does not grow after you buy it. Old owners do not get the new game added. New buyers get the full set at once, with Premium and Revelations. That avoids tricky account work across three stores. Choices stay simple. Buy the base game, add the upgrade for the extra story, or buy the Anthology for the whole series.
Worth flagging is the short list of systems. Sticking to PlayStation 5, Steam, and Xbox Series X/S makes testing and updates easier. It is also where most current players and cloud play are, including Game Pass cloud play on Xbox.
Over the longer term, this approach helps story games last. A lower starting price brings in new players. The premium option stays for fans. Players get an easy way to start, and the maker can keep selling the game longer without splitting players into too many groups.
