New York City will hold a ticker-tape parade for the NBA champion New York Knicks on Thursday, June 18, 2026, along Broadway through the Canyon of Heroes. Mayor Zohran Mamdani will give the team the Keys to the City at a ceremony afterward, per the mayor's office.

Running a parade this size requires real work from the city. The NYC Department of Sanitation is bringing in cleanup crews to sweep up the mess afterward. The NYC Department of Transportation has ordered all active construction projects along the route to stop, so workers and equipment won't get in the way or create safety problems. The Staten Island Ferry is running extra trips Thursday afternoon to help people get home after the event, according to the announcements made June 17.

The confetti alone shows how big this is expected to be. The city is handing out 2,500 pounds of shredded paper to office buildings along the route. Drops are coordinated across roughly 22 buildings in the Canyon of Heroes — the stretch of Broadway between Battery Park and City Hall — according to Gothamist. That's a lot of logistics with property managers all up and down Broadway.

When construction stops, contractors lose money sitting idle with crews and equipment waiting. When ferries run extra schedules, somebody has to pay overtime for staff. Coordinating 2,500 pounds of paper across two dozen buildings doesn't happen without planning. A city doesn't commit resources like this unless it has decided the event is worth it.

The Knicks last won an NBA title in 1973 — fifty-three years ago. The Canyon of Heroes has hosted 208 parades since 1886, but never one for the Knicks. Thursday changes that.
