Voicemod has announced the Key Pocket, a small handheld device that changes your voice live and plays sound effects on Apple and Android phones.

It follows the Voicemod Key dongle from late 2024. That earlier product used a smartphone to link Voicemod's mobile app with Xbox, PlayStation and Switch, allowing live voice changing in console game chat, according to The Verge. The Key Pocket turns that idea to the phone itself. It can change your voice or play sounds while gaming, calling or streaming on iOS or Android.

Extra hardware is needed because phones lock down sound. The Key Pocket is an outside sound box that sticks to the back of phones or tablets that support magnetic add-ons. It works like a translator passing notes between friends. Sound from a wired or Bluetooth microphone plugged into the Key Pocket is changed in Voicemod's mobile app, then sent back to the phone through a short USB-C cable. Fortnite, Roblox, Discord and phone or video call apps can then use that changed voice. It loops sound out and back in, rather than changing sound inside the phone system.

Control is with real buttons. The unit has six buttons you can set to swap voices or play sounds, plus a mute button. A glowing dial you can adjust changes voices or volume. You can press a button without leaving your game or call screen. That is quicker and less error-prone than tapping through phone menus during live play.

It is not phone-only. It can also change voices on new consoles including the Switch 2 and recent Meta Quest headsets. Voicemod's mobile app for iOS and Android, which can record and work as a remote control for Voicemod, handles the processing and setup.

There are two prices. The Key Pocket alone is $99.90. A $129.90 bundle adds Voicemod Pro. The extra $30 gives lifetime use of hundreds of Voicemod-made voices and thousands of community-made voices. Pro opens more than 200 Voicemod-created voices, instead of a small rotating free set, and more than 76,000 community-created voices. Pro also lets you create custom voices and sync them across platforms over the cloud, with no subscription.

The broader context here is simple. Phones do not let one app change all sound across the system, as PCs did. In my view, that is why Voicemod needed a separate device with magnets and buttons, and why it costs what it does.

In my view, the tradeoffs are plain. The extra box means more to manage with charging, cables and which microphones work. The benefit is voices stay in the phone app, so they can be updated without new hardware, and one controller works for mobile, console and headset. For people posting across Fortnite, Discord and TikTok-style mobile video, one set of voices is handy.

Worth flagging as background, Voicemod earlier expanded Key sales to Europe after demand in the United States. The company described the Key as a portable, pocket-sized sound card that works with Android and iPhone devices.

In my view, this goes beyond funny voices. Playing a character, acting out live stories, keeping your real voice private, and playing quick sounds are now common for creators. The Key Pocket puts those tools at your fingertip on mobile, with no computer needed.
