Cameron Thomas, a Liberal Democrat MP, was arrested by Gloucestershire Police on Wednesday night, Sky News reported on 18 June 2026. His party immediately suspended him from their parliamentary group while the police investigation continues.

Thomas, 43, has been the MP for Tewkesbury since the 2024 general election, when he won with a strong majority. He is a former RAF officer. He was elected as part of a wave of Liberal Democrat gains that significantly changed the electoral map that year. Tewkesbury had not been a Liberal Democrat seat before.

The police have not released any details about what Thomas is alleged to have done, and Thomas has not made a public statement.

What does suspending the whip mean? Think of it like a sports team removing a player from the team while an investigation happens.
