Apple has put its folding iPhone Duo up for pre-order at $1,999 for 256GB, or $83.29 a month. The $2,000 question was asked directly on Oct. 16, 2026: is it worth it next to other folding phones. MarketWatch

That $1,999 gets you 256GB of storage, or room for apps and photos. Apple lists four choices: 256GB, 512GB, 1TB and 2TB. Apple Storage is the only price step shared so far.

The screen opens like a book to 7.6 inches. It is a Super Retina XDR folding display with nano-texture, a finish that cuts glare. Apple It is described as the largest iPhone screen ever. MarketWatch Apple says it is OLED, which means each dot of light makes its own light, at 430 ppi. Ppi means pixels per inch, or how sharp it looks. Weight is 8.96 ounces.

The Duo runs on the A20 Pro chip and has a 48MP Dual Fusion camera system. Apple The main 48MP camera shoots 4K video at 120 frames per second in Dolby Vision, a sharp video format. Apple Apple calls it a "breakthrough foldable design that is beautiful, versatile, and durable."

Samsung describes the Galaxy Z Fold8 as its lightest folding phone, with a wider screen and Multi Window for watching and using apps side by side, plus Galaxy AI. Samsung The range now has the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold8 and Galaxy Z Flip8. The Ultra brings Samsung's Ultra standard to foldables. Samsung Flip models fold top to bottom into a small shape.

Google says the Pixel 11 Pro Fold opens to a large 8-inch screen and is thinner, lighter, and 3x stronger. The front cover is a 6.5-inch Super Actua display with 19.5:9 shape and 1080 x 2342 OLED resolution. Folded shut, it is 6.1 inches tall by 3 inches wide by 0.4 inches thick. Google describes the Pixel 10 Pro Fold as its best folding phone for doing many things at once and for entertainment.

In India, Google lists the Pixel 10 Pro Fold at ₹1,72,999 or ₹7,208.29 per month with no-cost EMI, which means monthly payments with no extra fee.

With a Mac, iPhone Mirroring shows your iPhone screen on the computer so you can use it without picking up the phone. You can answer calls or texts from a Mac. You can copy a photo, video or text on iPhone and paste it into a Mac app, and iCloud opens the same files on either device. Apple Apple Watch can show distance and direction to a lost iPhone, act as a camera button to take a photo, and pass a call to iPhone with a tap. AirPods pair with a tap and have Adaptive Audio, which adjusts noise control by itself.

Reuters reported the iPhone Duo had no clearly defined target market, with analysts citing a positioning gap versus past Apple products. Reuters

The broader context here is price versus use. At $1,999, the Duo costs about double a normal high-end phone. Storage up to 2TB can lift what buyers pay without changing the screen, weight or chip. For work users, the choice is easy carrying against 7.6 inches of OLED at 430 ppi and 8.96 ounces.

In my view, the test is not screen size alone. Samsung is selling Multi Window and Galaxy AI for getting work done. Google is selling an 8-inch open screen and a 6.5-inch cover with clear sizes. Apple is selling its chip, a 48MP camera with 4K 120 fps Dolby Vision, and links across Mac, Watch and AirPods. If it sells well, it will be because buyers like that full package at $83.29 a month, not because folding phones needed one more screen.
