ServiceNow Reports Its Latest Quarter on October 28: What to Know Before the Numbers Come Out
source:servicenow.com

ServiceNow, which sells software to businesses, will release its third-quarter 2026 financial results on October 28, 2026. Its earnings call starts at 2 p.m. Pacific Daylight Time that day. The quarter ended on September 30.

Expectations are already set. Analysts expect total revenue of $4.09 billion for the quarter, according to Yahoo Finance, published October 26. That figure would mean 20% growth. It is an average of analyst estimates, which is what "consensus" means. It also counts all of the company's revenue, not just one part.

ServiceNow's key number has been subscription revenue. This is the money customers pay again and again to use the software, much like a gym's monthly membership fees. It is a narrower line than total revenue, and that difference matters when comparing numbers.

The previous quarter sets the baseline. In the second quarter, ServiceNow reported subscription revenue of $3,877 million, up 24.5% from a year earlier. Growth was 23% when exchange-rate effects were removed, according to its second-quarter release. In the first quarter, subscription revenue was $3,671 million, up 22%, or 19% without currency effects, according to its first-quarter release. The rise from the first quarter to the second was $206 million.

Currency deserves a closer look. Exchange rates are the prices of one country's money in another's, and they move. In both quarters, the headline growth rate was higher than the rate without currency effects, so currency helped the headline. The gap was 1.5 percentage points in the second quarter and 3 points in the first. A percentage point is the simple difference between two percentages. When comparing quarters, check which growth rate a figure uses before drawing conclusions about demand.

The company's own forecast is the other reference point. In July, ServiceNow raised its 2026 subscription revenue forecast to between $15.760 billion and $15.780 billion. The first half totals $7,548 million. Using the middle of the range, that leaves about $8.22 billion for the third and fourth quarters combined, or roughly $4.11 billion each. That is about 6% above the second-quarter subscription figure. The forecast, in other words, assumes revenue keeps rising in the second half.

One caution: the $4.09 billion analyst estimate is a total revenue number, while the forecast is for subscription revenue. The two cannot be lined up directly. Anyone comparing them needs a separate estimate for subscription revenue.

The broader context here is that forecasts are only as good as their assumptions, and the analyst estimate is a forecast too. Once a number is widely published, markets have already absorbed some of it before the release. In my view, the share price reaction will likely depend on two things: how far the actual results land from that expectation, and whether the company changes its full-year range. Neither is known until the release is out.

When the results arrive, three things are worth checking. First, compare the subscription revenue figure with the roughly $4.11 billion per quarter the forecast implies. Second, look at the gap between reported and constant-currency growth. Third, see whether the $15.760 billion to $15.780 billion range is kept, narrowed, or changed. Each one says something about the second half of the year. None of them means much until the numbers are on the page.
