AMD's New Gaming Chip Gives You Premium Features for $329

AMD's Ryzen 7 7700X3D, a new computer processor designed primarily for gaming, is now available for $329. The chip is sold exclusively through the online retailer Newegg in the US and Canada during the Q3 period (July through September), according to Engadget.
The processor includes a feature called 3D V-Cache. Think of cache as a small, ultra-fast memory that sits directly on the processor, holding the data the chip needs most often. The faster the processor can reach that data, the smoother your games run. 3D V-Cache is AMD's method of stacking an extra layer of this memory on top of the chip, dramatically increasing how much fast data the processor can access at once. The 7700X3D carries 96MB of this stacked cache, the same amount as AMD's more expensive Ryzen 7 7800X3D, as reported by TechTimes. AMD has stated that the 7700X3D delivers gaming performance similar to the 7800X3D, making it a near-equivalent gaming part at a lower cost.
AMD first announced the Ryzen 7 7700X3D at Computex 2026 on May 31, alongside a commitment to support the AM4 and AM5 platforms for ten years, per AMD's own Computex blog post. AM5 is the type of socket, or slot, the processor fits into on a motherboard. A ten-year support commitment means that buyers can expect to upgrade to newer processors in the future without having to replace the motherboard itself. At the time of the announcement, AMD listed the suggested price at $329 and indicated a July 16 availability date. The product has now hit retail on that promised schedule.
The 7700X3D sits below the 7800X3D in AMD's lineup, and the gap between the two is narrower than the naming might suggest. Both chips share the same eight-core layout and the same 96MB of stacked cache. The main difference is how fast they run: the 7700X3D's top speed of 4.5 GHz is lower than the 7800X3D's. For gaming, where the large cache does most of the heavy lifting and most games do not fully use all eight cores, that speed difference matters less than you might expect.
The Newegg exclusivity is worth noting for anyone planning to build a computer around this chip. AMD has used retailer-exclusive launches before, and the Q3 window means the exclusivity is time-limited rather than permanent. Buyers outside the US and Canada will need to wait for broader availability, and even within those markets, limiting sales to a single retailer can create supply shortages during the initial rush.
At $329, the 7700X3D competes directly with Intel's offerings in the same price range. For buyers whose primary goal is gaming, the combination of 96MB of cache and eight cores at this price is a straightforward value. The processor's 120W TDP, which is a measure of how much heat it produces and therefore how much cooling it needs, is modest by current desktop standards, keeping cooling requirements reasonable.
The broader picture here is that AMD is now offering its 3D V-Cache technology at multiple price levels within the AM5 platform. The 7800X3D remains the faster option; the 7700X3D trades a bit of speed for a lower price. For anyone building a gaming PC who does not need the absolute fastest processor, the 7700X3D brings the key benefit of 3D V-Cache to $329, and that is the calculation that matters.
