Ultrahuman began rolling out a comprehensive app overhaul, codenamed Emerald, to all users on July 23, 2026. The on-device processing shift is the most consequential technical change in the Emerald update. By moving analysis off remote servers and onto the local device, Ultrahuman eliminates the network round-trip for generating health insights. The app can now produce its analysis in airplane mode or in any offline scenario, which also means user vital-sign data does not need to leave the device for the app's core intelligence to function.

Emerald redesigns the default tab to surface contextual information tailored to the user's current needs. Rather than presenting a static dashboard, the app adapts what it displays based on time of day, recent activity, and the user's physiological state. The stated goal is decluttering: fewer layers of navigation between the user and the metric that matters right now.

Two AI systems underpin the new experience. Jade, Ultrahuman's homegrown AI engine, analyzes vital signs alongside contextual data to generate health tips. Ultrasphere, described as a decision engine, goes a step further by producing "next best actions" for the user. Where Jade diagnoses and advises, Ultrasphere prescribes a specific behavioral response, closing the loop between data collection and recommended intervention.

On the biometrics side, Emerald updates the algorithms behind VO2 Max calculations, aiming for more accurate blood oxygen level readings. The update also brings improvements to atrial fibrillation (AFib) detection and adds a live heart rate monitoring view within the app, letting users watch their heart rate data stream in real time rather than reviewing it retrospectively.

The combination of on-device analysis and a contextual default tab addresses a recurring tension in wearable health platforms: the gap between raw physiological data and actionable guidance. Most health-tracking apps excel at collection but leave interpretation to the user. Ultrahuman's Jade-plus-Ultrasphere architecture attempts to compress that gap by moving from passive metrics to prescriptive, context-aware recommendations, all without requiring a server backend.

The on-device shift also carries privacy implications worth noting. When health insights are computed locally, the raw biometric data feeding those insights need not be transmitted to or stored on remote infrastructure. For users concerned about the exposure of sensitive health information, local-only processing reduces the attack surface to the device itself. Whether Ultrahuman's implementation fully isolates all data flows from network transmission is a question that will require independent technical scrutiny, but the architecture as described points in a privacy-protective direction.

The live heart rate feature and the improved AFib detection round out an update that, taken as a whole, pushes the Ultrahuman platform toward real-time, clinically adjacent monitoring rather than retrospective trend analysis. AFib detection improvements matter specifically because atrial fibrillation is intermittent; better detection algorithms increase the probability of catching arrhythmic episodes that shorter or less sensitive monitoring windows would miss.

For existing Ultrahuman users, the Emerald rollout is already underway. The update is reaching all users as of the publication date, not gated behind a beta or staggered release schedule. New features include the redesigned contextual default tab, on-device analysis, Jade health tips, Ultrasphere next-best-action recommendations, updated VO2 Max algorithms, improved AFib detection, and live heart rate viewing.

The broader trajectory here is consistent with where wearable health platforms are heading: more computation at the edge, more prescriptive AI layered on top of raw sensor data, and tighter integration between detection and recommended action.
