GuliKit has announced the ES Max, its first wireless game controller, priced at $49.99 and available now. It works with all versions of the Nintendo Switch, plus Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, and Steam. (The Verge)

The $49.99 price is a $20 increase over the previous model, the ES Pro, which cost $29.99. The higher price comes from a redesigned thumbstick sensor. To understand the engineering shift, it helps to know what stick drift is. Over time, the thumbsticks on most controllers start registering movement even when you are not touching them. This happens because the sensors inside wear down or lose accuracy. GuliKit's TMR technology uses magnets to track stick position without physical contact between parts, which should reduce wear.

The ES Max's specific improvement is in how it reads that magnet. Older Hall-effect sensors infer stick position from field-strength variation, which is susceptible to temperature drift and mechanical wear over the sensor's life. By measuring the rotational angle of a nearby magnet as it moves with the stick, the ES Max's TMR module should produce more linear output across the full range of motion and hold its calibration longer. GuliKit launched its TT Series for global markets in January 2026 with TMR joysticks designed for anti-drift characteristics and long-term performance consistency, and the ES Max appears to iterate on that same sensor family. Beyond the sticks, the ES Max adds two remappable back buttons, swappable thumbstick caps, and Hall-effect linear triggers that can be switched to micro-switches for a tactile, short-throw feel. The controller also ships with a bundled Hyperlink 2 Bluetooth adapter, which GuliKit claims offers lower latency for wireless use. GuliKit is also introducing its first mobile app alongside the ES Max, letting users customize, configure, and update their gamepads. This closes a gap that has typically separated budget controller makers from first-party and premium peripheral brands, both of which have long offered software for remapping, deadzone adjustment, and firmware updates.

The ES Max arrives in a market where stick drift remains a pervasive frustration. GuliKit has been building a broader ecosystem of TMR-based solutions: the company sells a drop-in TMR joystick replacement kit for the Joy-Con 2, a no-soldering TMR module for the ROG Ally and ROG Ally X, and a 720-degree tension-adjustable TMR joystick compatible with the Switch Pro Controller, PS5 DualSense, DualSense Edge, Xbox Series, Xbox Elite Series 2, and PS4 DualShock. In practical terms, the ES Max stands out less for any single feature than for bringing together a set of capabilities that, until recently, required spending $150 or more on a premium controller. Remappable back paddles, Hall-effect triggers with a micro-switch toggle, swappable stick caps, a dedicated low-latency wireless adapter, and a companion configuration app are all included. The $20 premium over the ES Pro is modest relative to what has been added.

The shift from field-strength to angular measurement in the TMR sticks is the sort of incremental sensor improvement that matters most to competitive players and those who have burned through multiple controllers to drift. Whether the real-world precision and longevity gains justify the price increase will depend on long-term testing that a launch announcement cannot provide. But the engineering direction is sound, and GuliKit's willingness to iterate openly on its stick technology across product generations suggests the company is treating drift as a solvable engineering problem rather than a tolerated limitation.

The broader context here is that controller hardware has entered a phase where the distinguishing features are no longer ergonomics or button count but sensor quality, configurability, and software support. GuliKit's product roadmap across replacement modules, standalone controllers, and adapters positions it squarely in that transition. The ES Max is a reasonable bet that enough users will pay $50 for those distinctions to matter.
