Ghost of Yōtei Is Getting a Complete Edition with New Story and Combat Content — Here's What's Included

Sony and Sucker Punch will release Ghost of Yōtei Complete Edition for PlayStation 5 on October 1, 2026. The $70 package includes the original game plus a new story expansion, a new combat survival mode, and the online co-op mode called Ghost of Yōtei Legends (PlayStation Blog; Engadget).
The headline addition is Echoes of Sekigahara, a story expansion set across two time periods that explores the past of protagonist Atsu. Details on scope and length remain limited, but the dual-timeline structure suggests a narrative that runs parallel to rather than directly continuing the main campaign (Engadget).
A second major addition is Most Wanted, a single-player combat survival mode the developer describes as inspired by roguelikes. A roguelike is a type of game where you play through short, repeatable sessions, earning upgrades that carry forward even when you fail and start over. In this mode, players accept bounties, take down enemies, and earn combat perks across runs. The roguelike framing is a notable design departure for a series rooted in open-world action-adventure, grafting a loop-oriented replay structure onto Sucker Punch's existing combat system (Engadget).
The Complete Edition also includes Ghost of Yōtei Legends, the free co-op multiplayer mode that has been available to all base-game owners since launch on October 1, 2025 (PlayStation.com). The Legends mode carries forward the cooperative survival framework introduced in Ghost of Tsushima, adapted for Yōtei's Edo-period setting and combat mechanics.
Pricing follows the standard Sony playbook for definitive releases. The Complete Edition costs $70, matching the base game's original MSRP. Existing owners of Ghost of Yōtei can upgrade for $15 (Engadget). For context, the standard edition launched at $69.99 USD / £69.99 / €79.99 / ¥8,980 (PlayStation Blog, April 2025).
All editions of the game, including the base version, receive a free update adding a new photo mode with a screensaver feature and a high contrast accessibility option. The quality-of-life and accessibility improvements are not gated behind the Complete Edition purchase (Engadget).
The release lands almost exactly one year after the base game, which shipped on October 2, 2025 (Engadget). In the intervening months, Sucker Punch has supported the title with substantive post-launch updates. Patch 1.100, released in November 2025, introduced New Game Plus (a mode that lets you replay the game while keeping your upgrades and abilities) and the ability to replay challenge content after a first completion, alongside the 22 Yōtei Six Camps and 26 replayable duels already present in the game (Sucker Punch Support). An earlier patch, 1.010 in October 2025, fixed a bug preventing Digital Deluxe Edition purchasers from receiving the Black Ghost mask (Sucker Punch Support).
Ghost of Yōtei is the follow-up to Ghost of Tsushima, both developed by Sony-owned Sucker Punch (Engadget). The announcement was made via the official PlayStation Blog on August 12, 2026, authored by Adam Michel, Director of Content Acquisition & Operations at Sony Interactive Entertainment (PlayStation Blog).
The broader context here is that releasing a bundled definitive edition roughly one year after launch has become a reliable pattern for Sony's first-party tentpole releases. The $15 upgrade path for existing owners is a consumer-friendly touch that acknowledges the base-game install base, while the $70 entry point for new buyers keeps the title at full price despite the year of post-launch content already available for free. The real differentiators for the Complete Edition are Echoes of Sekigahara and Most Wanted; everything else in the bundle, including Legends, is already available to current owners at no additional cost.
What is not yet clear is how much new story content Echoes of Sekigahara delivers and whether the roguelike structure of Most Wanted offers enough mechanical depth to sustain the replayability its bounty-and-perk loop implies. Sucker Punch has not yet detailed the expansion's runtime or the mode's progression systems. The October 1 release gives the studio roughly seven weeks to fill in those gaps before launch.
