The UK recorded its hottest day of the year on 13 August 2026, with a temperature of 38.1C at Kew Gardens in west London, according to the Met Office. That beat the previous 2026 high of 38C set on 28 June. It is part of a much bigger picture: extreme heat across Europe during the fifth heatwave of the summer.
