Kingdom Hearts IV Is Coming to Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation, Xbox, and PC

Kingdom Hearts IV Is Coming to Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation, Xbox, and PC
On June 9, 2026, Square Enix and Disney announced that Kingdom Hearts IV is being made and will come out at the same time on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Windows PC. The announcement happened during a Nintendo Direct broadcast — a show where Nintendo shares gaming news. Square Enix also announced Kingdom Hearts Collection [I~III], which bundles together earlier games in the series and will also come to all four platforms.
This is the broadest announcement the franchise has made about which systems the games will appear on.
What Was Announced
Two games were confirmed:
Kingdom Hearts IV — the next main game in the series. It will launch on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Windows. Per Anime News Network's coverage, this is a full release on all four platforms at the same time, not an exclusive to one system or a delayed version for some.
Kingdom Hearts Collection [I~III] — earlier games from the series bundled together. This will also come to Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. For Switch 2 owners, this matters because the franchise was never really available on Nintendo hardware before.
No release date or price has been announced yet.
The Path to This Announcement
Square Enix and Disney first said they were making Kingdom Hearts IV back in April 2022, on the series' 20th anniversary. At that time, they introduced the new story direction — calling it the "Lost Master Arc" — and also announced a new mobile game.
The June 9 announcement adds what was missing before: which systems the games will be on, and that the Switch 2 will get it on day one. The four-year wait between first announcement and platform details is normal for a game of this size. But choosing to announce it at a Nintendo Direct event signals that the Switch 2 version is important, not a quick afterthought.
Why Nintendo Switch 2 Matters
The Nintendo Switch 2 just launched, and publishers were watching to see if major Japanese video game makers would support it. When a big franchise like Kingdom Hearts comes to the Switch 2 on the same day as other platforms, that sends a clear message: this console is worth investing in.
There is another reason this announcement is worth paying attention to. Kingdom Hearts games have been scattered across different platforms — PlayStation, Nintendo handhelds, streaming services — making it hard for fans to play all the games or catch up on the story. By putting the collection and the new game on the same four platforms everywhere, Square Enix is making it simpler for people to get into the series.
What Is the Lost Master Arc?
The "Lost Master Arc" is the name for a new chapter in the Kingdom Hearts story. Before this, the series ran through what was called the "Dark Seeker Saga," which started with the original game and ended with Kingdom Hearts III. That saga was treated as complete.
The Lost Master Arc is a fresh start for the story under the same director, Tetsuya Nomura. Kingdom Hearts IV is the first game in this new arc. For longtime fans, this is a signal: you do not need to have played every single prior game to understand what happens next.
The Mobile Game
In 2022, Square Enix also announced a new mobile Kingdom Hearts game. The June 9 announcements did not update anything about that project. It appears to still be in development, but the focus right now is on the console and PC games.
The Bigger Picture
When a major video game franchise comes to Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo, and PC all on the same day — rather than waiting months or years before other versions arrive — it usually means a few things: selling the game to everyone matters more than paying money for exclusive deals, all the console makers are fighting hard to get popular games, and the company making the game thinks it will sell better by being everywhere at once.
Square Enix has been moving in this direction for the past decade. Their Final Fantasy games have gradually spread from one platform to others. Seeing Kingdom Hearts IV head to four platforms at launch feels like a continuation of that pattern, not a sudden change.
The practical question is whether the Switch 2 version will run just as smoothly and look just as good as the PlayStation and Xbox versions. That will only be clear when more technical details are released.
What We Still Do Not Know
Several important details have not been announced yet:
- When it comes out: No release date or even a rough window has been given.
- What games are in the collection: We know there is a bundle of earlier games, but not exactly which titles or whether they have been improved or remastered.
- The mobile game update: Nothing new has been said about the companion mobile title from 2022.
- Switch 2 technical details: How well the Switch 2 version runs, at what resolution and frame rate, has not been shared.
The fact that Square Enix has confirmed the platforms but not the release date suggests the game is far enough along to be sure about which systems it will appear on, but not yet ready to promise when players can buy it. For a game of this size and complexity, that is a reasonable stage to be at.
Why This Matters
The big change here is that Kingdom Hearts went from a series split across many different systems and difficult to access as a whole, to one where all the recent games are available everywhere at once. That makes it easier for players who are new to the series or who want to jump back in.
The announcement does not tell us whether the games will be as good as fans hope, but it does confirm the project is real, the platform list is broad, and the Switch 2 is getting serious support, not a second-rate version. For a series that has asked fans to be patient for a long time, that is a meaningful step forward.
