Final Fantasy VII's Final Remake Is Coming April 2027 — Here's What to Know

Final Fantasy VII Revelation, the third and final game in Square Enix's remake trilogy, comes out April 8, 2027 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC Engadget. The release date was announced during a Sony State of Play livestream on September 3, 2026 Engadget.

Square Enix first revealed the game in June 2026 Gematsu, through a press release on its North American press site Square Enix Press. At that point the publisher said the game would launch in Spring 2027 but did not give a specific date. The September livestream narrowed that to April 8. On PC, the game will be sold through Steam, the Epic Games Store, and the Microsoft Store Square Enix Press.

Revelation wraps up a trilogy that started with Final Fantasy VII Remake in 2020 and continued with Final Fantasy VII Rebirth in 2024 Engadget. Together, the three games retell the story of the original Final Fantasy VII, which came out on the PlayStation in 1997. Square Enix's product page describes Revelation as the moment when "the final battle to decide the fate of the world has begun," where players take to the skies and stand with companions against the villain Sephiroth one last time Square Enix. The trilogy's development has spanned roughly a decade Automaton.

Pre-orders are currently open for PS5 owners. Players who pre-order before launch get two summon spells as in-game bonuses Engadget. A Premium Edition lets players start playing one day early, and includes an in-game accessory, extra consumable items, and access to future story DLC Engadget.

The broader context here is a shift in how major Japanese game publishers release their biggest titles. The original 1997 game was only on PlayStation. The 2020 Remake launched first on PS4 and reached other platforms later. Revelation, by contrast, will be available on all four platform families from day one, including Nintendo's Switch 2. That kind of simultaneous launch across consoles and PC would have been unusual for a mainline Final Fantasy game a decade ago Square Enix.

The PC strategy also stands out. Rather than picking one storefront or signing a timed exclusivity deal, Square Enix is selling the game on Steam, the Epic Games Store, and the Microsoft Store at once. For a game that caps off a trilogy, that breadth makes it easier for players who joined the series at different points and on different devices to pick it up.

The gap between entries — 2020, 2024, 2027 — is fairly tight for games of this scale. The roughly three years between each title suggests Square Enix structured its development so the teams could overlap work rather than starting from scratch each time. The commitment to story DLC for the Premium Edition, announced before launch, shows that post-launch content is already planned.

For players who have followed the trilogy since 2020, Revelation is the payoff to a seven-year, three-game story. For Square Enix, it closes a project in development for roughly a decade, bringing one of the publisher's most closely watched franchises to its conclusion.
