Google Is Stopping Sales of Its Nest Mini and Nest Audio Speakers

Google has stopped making the Nest Mini and Nest Audio smart speakers, Tech Advisor reported on 17 June 2026, with Google confirming the decision. The company is now pushing people toward a new speaker called the Google Home speaker, which costs $99.99. Android Gadget Hacks reported on 18 June 2026 that this new speaker replaces both of the old ones.
The Nest Mini was Google's cheapest smart speaker option. The Nest Audio, released in 2020, was designed for people who wanted better sound quality along with Google's voice assistant. Now Google is getting rid of both and offering just one speaker instead of two.
Price is a big part of the story. The Nest Mini often sold for less than $50, making it an easy, low-cost purchase—something you'd grab for a kitchen or guest bedroom without much thought. The new Google Home speaker costs $99.99, which is almost double the price. This means buyers have to make a more careful decision about whether they really want one.
If you already own a Nest Mini or Nest Audio, you don't need to throw it away. Stopping production doesn't mean the speaker will stop working overnight. However, Google has a mixed history when it comes to keeping older devices working properly over the long term. Google shut down Stadia (a game streaming service) in 2022, and it has phased out earlier Nest products as well. If you own one of these speakers, it's wise to pay attention to what Google says about how long it will keep updating and supporting your device.
Google has been cleaning up its product lineup in general. The company has used the names Google Home, Nest, and Google Home again over the years, which can be confusing. By moving to just one speaker, Google is trying to focus on making fewer products that are better supported. The question is whether Google will stick to this approach or go back to selling many different models later on.
The smart speaker market overall is facing challenges. Amazon's Echo speakers have had their own money-making problems, and people have not been as excited about voice-controlled devices as companies expected a few years ago. Right now, companies are working on making voice assistants smarter using artificial intelligence. One reason Google and other companies might be dropping older speaker models is so they can spend their time and money on building the next generation of smarter speakers.
What happens next is fairly clear: stores will sell off any remaining Nest Mini and Nest Audio speakers at lower prices. The new $99.99 Google Home speaker is what Google wants new customers to buy. If you already use Google speakers or the Google Assistant, you can upgrade to the new one, but it will cost you more than your last speaker probably did.
