Elastic, a software company that helps tech teams monitor their systems, is buying DeductiveAI, an AI startup, for up to $85 million. The deal was reported on 19 June 2026.

What does DeductiveAI do? It uses artificial intelligence to find and fix bugs — software errors — automatically. Normally, engineers have to manually hunt through logs and data to figure out what went wrong. DeductiveAI does this work with AI instead, and can even apply fixes on its own. It's like moving from a mechanic who writes down a diagnosis and hands it to you, to one who diagnoses and repairs the problem in one go.

Why is Elastic buying it? Elastic runs a platform that collects data from software systems and helps engineers understand what is happening inside them. By adding DeductiveAI, Elastic can offer more than just insight: it can offer automatic fixes. Engineering teams increasingly expect their tools to not only alert them to problems but solve them.

About the price: the "up to $85 million" means Elastic is paying some money now, then paying more later if DeductiveAI hits certain targets, like successfully launching new features or keeping its best employees. This approach shares the risk: if the technology doesn't integrate well, the final payment drops.

Why does Elastic prefer to own this rather than partner with it?
