You Can Soon Just Ask YouTube Music What You Want to Hear

YouTube is adding two AI features to YouTube Music: Ask Music for finding music by description, and Your Podcast Lineup for previewing podcasts. TechCrunch

Ask Music is built into the YouTube Music app. Instead of typing an exact song or artist name, you describe what you want in normal words. It works for music and podcasts.

It searches more than 300 million songs, including official songs, remixes, live shows, covers, and DJ sets. It keeps original recordings separate from alternate versions instead of mixing them together.

It can also answer questions, such as who played bass on a track, and build a playlist from a plain request. Listening and learning stay in the same chat, like asking a friend to play a song and tell you about it.

Your Podcast Lineup is an audio guide made by AI. It will appear on the podcast page in the app. Once a week it plays short spoken previews and explains why you might like each show. You can jump straight into an episode, with no browsing, searching, or subscribing first.

Both features are coming soon to YouTube Music and YouTube Premium subscribers worldwide. YouTube announced them on September 23, 2026.

The broader pattern here is simple. People no longer need the exact name. They describe a mood or situation and the system finds the match. In my view the podcast preview helps most, because hearing a short sample with a reason is faster than reading a list. The cost is extra wait time while the AI works, plus harder checks on accuracy, credits, and rights. If YouTube handles that well, hard-to-find audio becomes easier to enjoy.
