WritingClub.world started a writing contest on July 6, 2026, called 1 Picture 1000 Words. The prize is $1,000 for the best piece submitted. All entries must be based on a single photograph—a dog in a pool.

The rules are simple but strict in one way and very open in another. Every entry must be exactly 1,000 words. That is the only firm requirement. You can write whatever genre you want: a true story, science fiction, a funny piece, or anything else that connects to the photo. Submissions close on August 31, 2026.

This approach uses a tight word count to push creativity. When you have exactly 1,000 words, you cannot add extra words to fill space, and you cannot cut corners. Every sentence has to matter. The photo acts like an anchor—it keeps you connected to something real, even if your story goes in unexpected directions.

The open genre is important. A dog in a pool seems like an ordinary image, but the contest welcomes sci-fi, comedy, and memoir equally.
