Peak Design launched a new collection of bags called the City Line on August 4, 2026. The lineup includes six lightweight bags for everyday use, all made with a new weather-resistant material the company calls MonoShell and featuring a built-in hook called BagLev that lets you hang the bag from a table or chair (The Verge).

The six bags are a 15-liter and 22-liter City Backpack, a 15-liter City Tote, two crossbody bags called the City Crescent in 6-liter and 12-liter sizes, and a 2-liter City Sling. The collection is separate from Peak Design's well-known camera bags, marking a new direction for the company (Peak Design). Two prices are confirmed so far: the City Backpack 22L costs $199.95 and the City Tote 15L costs $159.95 (Peak Design).

MonoShell is the material used across all six bags. Peak Design says it is lightweight and weather-resistant, meaning it should keep your things dry in rain without being heavy to carry. The company has not shared more detailed specifications, so exactly how water-resistant it is compared to other materials is not yet clear.

The BagLev hook is the standout feature. Think of it like a built-in clip that lets you hang your bag from the edge of a table or the back of a chair, so it stays off the floor in a cafe, airport, or office. Most bag makers have not addressed this problem, or they expect you to buy a separate clip. Peak Design built it in.

Each bag also has a hidden pocket for a tracking device like an Apple AirTag. The pocket is placed so that someone else would have a hard time finding and removing the tracker, adding a layer of theft protection directly into the bag's design.

Color options include Moon, a natural off-white shade, and Lapis, a vibrant blue. Two other colors, Eclipse and Stone, are available only through certain stores, though Peak Design has not yet said which ones (Peak Design).

The broader context here is that bag makers are increasingly competing on materials and built-in features rather than just size and compartments. Peak Design is trying to stand out with a fabric designed to be light but protective, and a hook that solves a problem most bag makers have ignored. Whether MonoShell actually holds up over months of daily use is something reviewers and buyers will need to test; the launch materials describe the design goal, not long-term durability.

The hidden tracker pocket may be the most useful feature in the lineup even though it gets the least attention. Using AirTags to recover stolen bags has become common in cities, and having a concealed pocket built into every bag removes the guesswork of where to put one.

The full pricing for all six bags has not been published yet. The two confirmed prices place the City Line above basic commuter bags but below premium travel brands, which fits Peak Design's existing position in the market.
