American Donors Nearly Double Funding to Prince William and Princess Kate's Royal Foundation
The American Friends of The Royal Foundation of The Prince and Princess of Wales contributed £8,694,668 in 2025, a jump of almost £4 million from the £4,885,719 it gave the previous year (Hello!).
The Royal Foundation — registered with the UK Charity Commission under number 5006298 as "The Royal Foundation of the Prince and Princess of Wales" — is the primary philanthropic vehicle for the Prince and Princess of Wales (Charity Commission). It is led by chief executive Amanda Berry and its stated mission is to mobilise leaders, businesses and people to address society's greatest challenges (royalfoundation.com).
The American Friends, registered in Delaware, is described in the Foundation's filings as a "separately controlled entity" with "aligned interests" rather than a subsidiary under the charity's direct governance. Its role is to support the Foundation's programmes and initiatives, with a primary focus on projects delivering international impact (Hello!).
Taken together, The Royal Foundation recorded a total income of more than £19 million in 2025, against expenditure of £16 million (Hello!). The charity publishes its annual report and financial statements on its own website, with the most recent available covering the year ended 31 December 2024 (royalfoundation.com). That 2024 report was filed with the Charity Commission on 6 August 2025 and marked as on time (Charity Commission). The Foundation's programme roster includes the Princess of Wales's Centre for Early Childhood, which runs the Shaping Us Framework, and the Prince of Wales's Homewards project, which marked its halfway point at the end of 2025 (Hello!). For context, Archewell Philanthropies — the charitable organisation of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex — recorded £1.93 million in revenue in 2024 (Hello!). The two figures are not directly comparable: they cover different years, and Archewell's accounts reflect a different organisational structure registered in the United States.
What stands out in the Foundation's latest numbers is the scale of American giving. A single US-based "aligned" entity now contributes close to 45 per cent of the charity's reported total income, and that contribution grew by nearly 80 per cent in a single year. For a Foundation whose work spans early childhood, homelessness and environmental prize-giving, that transatlantic funding stream has become a structural feature of its finances, not a one-off gift.
