Storm King Art Center Names Anne Reeve as Senior Curator
Storm King Art Center, the 500-acre outdoor sculpture park in New York's Hudson Valley, has hired Anne Reeve as its senior curator. She starts on 1 November, filling a role that has stood vacant since early 2025, when Nora Lawrence was promoted to executive director. Artnet News
Reeve arrives from the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden in Washington, D.C., the Smithsonian Institution's modern and contemporary art museum. Her record at the Hirshhorn spans both indoor exhibitions and outdoor installations — the kind of dual portfolio that maps directly onto Storm King's mission. In 2019, she co-curated a site-specific installation by the Korean-born artist Lee Ufan in the Hirshhorn's outdoor plaza with the museum's then-director, Melissa Chiu. Three years later, in 2022, she organised the Hirshhorn's first exhibition devoted exclusively to works by women and non-binary artists. Reeve steps into an institution in the middle of a physical transformation. During her tenure as artistic director and chief curator — the role she held before becoming executive director — Lawrence oversaw a US$50 million campus upgrade. Storm King then reopened for its 2025 season on 7 May 2025, unveiling a US$53 million capital project that included new visitor facilities and landscape improvements. The Hirshhorn, meanwhile, is undergoing its own leadership change. Director Melissa Chiu, Reeve's collaborator on the Lee Ufan installation, is set to take the helm of the Guggenheim Museum in New York starting 1 September.
