Jacob Elordi in Talks to Join Scarlett Johansson in Ari Aster's A24 Thriller 'Scapegoat'

Jacob Elordi is in negotiations to co-star opposite Scarlett Johansson in Scapegoat, a thriller from writer-director Ari Aster that A24 will distribute, according to Deadline.
Aster wrote the script and will direct, producing alongside Lars Knudsen through their Square Peg banner. A24, the studio behind all four of Aster's previous films, handles distribution. The project was first identified earlier in 2026 as Aster's next film after Eddington, and Johansson was already tapped to star and lead the cast.
Elordi is the actor Aster had in mind for the next high-profile role. Negotiations began the week before the 10 August report, and if a deal closes, the plan is to shoot later in 2026.
The Australian actor has been building toward this kind of project. He received his first Oscar nomination for his role in Frankenstein, which premiered in autumn 2025 following a nine-month shoot. His recent credits include Warner Bros.' Wuthering Heights opposite Margot Robbie and a return to Euphoria, which premiered in spring 2026. He is next set to star in Ridley Scott's action thriller The Dog Stars, featuring Margaret Qualley and Josh Brolin.
A24's relationship with Aster dates back through his full feature filmography, making the distributor a natural home for Scapegoat. Square Peg, the production company Aster runs with Knudsen, has produced his films throughout that run.
Elordi is represented by Gersh and Goodman, Genow, Schenkman, Smelkinson & Christopher.
