Eton Erects 'No Photography' Signs Ahead of Prince George's Arrival This September
Eton College has put up new "No Photography" signs on its perimeter fences ahead of Prince George enrolling in September, according to reports published on 11 August 2026 (Hello!). The signs form part of a security protocol aimed at protecting pupils' privacy from media and public attention when the 13-year-old begins his studies at the Berkshire school.
Prince George, the firstborn son of the Prince and Princess of Wales, is second in line to the British throne (BBC News). Kensington Palace confirmed in June 2026 that he would attend Eton from September (Sky News). Annual fees at the school are approximately £63,000.
Eton, a full boarding school in Eton, Windsor, sits roughly a 16-minute drive from Forest Lodge, the royal family's home in Windsor Great Park (Hello!). The school has no day or weekly pupils; each boy has his own study-bedroom, with no shared rooms, according to Eton's official website. A typical boarding house holds just over 50 boys across all year groups, with about ten per year.
George is no stranger to boarding life. He previously attended Lambrook School in Berkshire on a flexible boarding basis, alongside his younger siblings, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis (Hello!). Eton's full boarding model will be a step up from that arrangement.
There is a precedent for a royal pupil at Eton, and a precedent for managing the press around one. When the Prince of Wales — then Prince William — enrolled at Eton in the 1990s, a deal was struck with the press: arranged photo shoots in exchange for leaving him alone the rest of the time (Hello!). The Prince of Wales has said he "really enjoyed being able to go about Eton as just another student."
Whether a similar arrangement will be reached for George has not been confirmed. What is visible so far is the hardware on the fence — plainly worded signs telling visitors and passers-by not to take photographs — and the school's stated purpose of protecting its pupils' privacy as a new, high-profile boy joins their ranks.
