Moebius Entertainment Boards Peter Ho-Sun Chan's 'The Road Not Taken' Ahead of Toronto Premiere

Moebius Entertainment has boarded international sales for Peter Ho-Sun Chan's "The Road Not Taken," which receives its world premiere at the 2026 Toronto International Film Festival in the Special Presentations programme (Variety; TIFF).
The Hong Kong-based sales outfit, founded and led by Fred Tsui, will handle every territory beyond the film's home market of China, unveiling it to buyers and festival programmers during the Toronto market. International sales — the business of selling distribution rights in foreign territories to local distributors — is the mechanism that determines which audiences around the world eventually get to see a film on their screens.
"The Road Not Taken" stars Zhou Xun as Jia Jia, a television host whose marriage to a wildlife conservationist is coming apart. The drama centres on early-onset Alzheimer's disease. Wen Qi plays Jia Jia's daughter, and Tian Zhuangzhuang — a director of China's Fifth Generation, the filmmaking cohort that emerged from the Beijing Film Academy in the early 1980s — plays her father (Variety).
Chan's last film, "She Has No Name," screened at TIFF the previous year, making this a return engagement. That earlier collaboration also connects to the deal now in place: Tsui served as executive producer on "She Has No Name" and oversaw its international rollout before founding Moebius. The company represents distinctive Asian and international titles and builds festival, sales and distribution plans around them (Variety).
Chan's production and distribution company, We Pictures, is behind the film. He has also launched a separate venture, Changin' Pictures, which he formally announced in late 2023 (The Hollywood Reporter).
The Moebius deal closed before a significant career move for Tsui. He is set to become executive director of the Hong Kong International Film Festival Society (HKIFFS) on 23 September, taking over from Albert Lee. Tsui is stepping back from new sales projects as he transitions into that role, but "The Road Not Taken" was already committed to Moebius before the appointment (Variety).
The timing puts the film's market launch squarely within the Toronto festival corridor, where distributors and programmers gather each September. A first-look image accompanied the Special Presentations announcement (The Hollywood Reporter), and the film is scheduled to screen on a Thursday during the festival (TIFF).
For audiences, the Toronto premiere is the first chance to see Chan's latest work — and the sales activity in the market alongside it will shape how widely it travels beyond that first screening.
