Vincent Young Wraps Directorial Debut 'Small Talk,' a Late-70s LA Rock Drama Starring Keegan Allen
Vincent Young has wrapped production on his directorial debut, the period music drama Small Talk, Deadline reported as an exclusive on 12 August 2026 (Deadline). The Los Angeles shoot is complete, and the film now moves toward post-production.
Small Talk is set against the late-1970s Los Angeles rock scene. It follows a young band on the edge of success as ambition, romance, and addiction threaten to destroy the music that brought them together (Deadline).
The cast is led by Keegan Allen, known to audiences from Pretty Little Liars, alongside Conor Husting (The Expanding Universe of Ashley Garcia), Rio Mangini (Wolf Pack), Sophia Del Rio (72 Hours), and Austin North (Outer Banks) (Deadline).
Young directed from a script he wrote with RJ Zabasky, based on a story he conceived with Douglas Young. Douglas Young also produced alongside Kristifor Cvijetic and Zabasky, and served as executive producer. Brian Yuran, Evan Sorlien, and Chris Kim came on as co-producers (Deadline).
The supporting cast fills out with Sophie Swiszcz, Shaun Holmes, Ruben Vernier, Doug Locke, Jamison Jones, Ross Gallo, Kavan Reece, Maury Morgan, Liam Martinez, and Michael Pare. Dean Fronk and Donald Pemrick handled casting (Deadline).
A first-time director mounting a period piece — with a cast of working television actors rather than bankable movie stars — is the kind of project that typically lands at a festival marketplace before securing distribution.
