Neil Perry Says His Sister Kimberly Forced Him Out of The Band Perry
Neil Perry says he was terminated from The Band Perry after disagreeing with his sister Kimberly over who would remain in the group's lineup, according to a Rolling Stone report published on 12 August 2026.
Perry laid out his account in a series of Instagram posts on Tuesday night and Wednesday, telling the magazine that a formal termination letter made clear the decision was final. He claimed he was "forced out by the 2/3 partnership agreement" — meaning Kimberly and their brother Reid, who together held a two-thirds stake in the band's business entity — voted him out after Reid briefly rejoined the group.
The dispute traces back to May 2024, when, according to Neil, the siblings were not consistently speaking. He said Kimberly approached him about resurrecting the band without Reid, who had departed and now works in artist management. Neil told Rolling Stone he was given three options: move forward as a duo, hold auditions, or bring in Kimberly's husband, Johnny Costello. He said he was fine with the first two. Costello ultimately joined, and The Band Perry is now led by Kimberly and her husband.
The tension spilled into public view after Kimberly appeared on Rolling Stone's Nashville Now podcast, where host Joseph Hudak asked whether she had her brother's blessing for the new iteration of the band. Kimberly replied that "there's always an open seat for a brother in the band if they ever want to tour." Neil pushed back: he said he "explicitly asked my sister not to misrepresent my support for the current vision of the band," referencing her podcast comments Rolling Stone.
Reid Perry, for his part, posted about leaving the band last year. His Instagram bio reads "Original member of The Band Perry |2005-2025|." Neil's own Instagram bio offers a blunter epitaph: "A band. A business. A family. A name. June 2024 took the old life."
A representative for Kimberly Perry and The Band Perry did not respond to Rolling Stone's request for comment.
The Band Perry, formed in 2005, built their name in country music before a well-documented pivot to pop roughly four years ago that polarised fans and led to a split from their record label. Kimberly later told iHeartRadio that the band's hiatus was not something she could accept, saying: "We are not going out this way. We are not letting it end with the disappearance of The Band Perry. I couldn't live with that" iHeartRadio.
Neil Perry is now focused on a new project called Wolves of June and a pop single titled "TNT." Whether the sibling partnership can be repaired, or whether it has ended in the courts as well as the press, is not yet on the public record.
