Steve Toussaint's Sea Snake Survives House of the Dragon Season 3 — Missing a Finger, Done With Rhaenyra

Corlys Velaryon, the Sea Snake, made it out of House of the Dragon's third season alive. Steve Toussaint, who plays the lord and naval commander, confirmed as much: "I'm still alive and I'm still employed," he told The Hollywood Reporter in a feature interview published 13 August 2026 The Hollywood Reporter.

The survival was not a comfortable one. Season three opened with Corlys in the middle of the Battle of the Gullet, the largest naval battle ever staged in the Game of Thrones universe The Hollywood Reporter. From there, his situation only got worse. Gwayne, played by Freddie Fox, handed Corlys over to Daemon Targaryen as a peace offering — a hostage negotiation that The Hollywood Reporter, in a separate feature published 12 August, called one of the season's standout scenes The Hollywood Reporter. Daemon took Corlys back as a prisoner and then launched a fiery campaign against Tumbleton The Hollywood Reporter.

Several other major characters were not so fortunate. Season three killed off Otto Hightower (Rhys Ifans), Jacerys Targaryen (Harry Collett), and Criston Cole (Fabien Frankel) The Hollywood Reporter.

For Corlys, the season's end appears to be a breaking point in his political loyalties. In an interview with Den of Geek published 9 August, he discussed his hopes for Nine Voyages, a potential series about the Sea Snake's legendary expeditions Den of Geek. HBO has had a Corlys Velaryon spinoff in development — titled The Sea Snake — since at least 2021, alongside other Game of Thrones offshoot projects including Nymeria and Flea Bottom The Hollywood Reporter.

For now, Corlys Velaryon is alive, short one finger, and — by his actor's read — finished with the queen he served.
