Rangers agree £6.5m deal for PSV winger Couhaib Driouech as summer rebuild accelerates
Rangers have agreed a £6.5m deal to sign PSV Eindhoven winger Couhaib Driouech, with the 24-year-old expected to complete his move to Ibrox on Friday, according to the BBC.
Driouech was at Ibrox on Wednesday evening to watch Rangers face Jagiellonia Bialystok, getting a first taste of the stadium he could soon call home. The tie was still live, but the Moroccan's presence in the stands told its own story: paperwork was advancing, and a deal was close.
The fee, first reported on 10 August, saw slight variation across outlets. The BBC cited £6.5m, while the Scottish Sun put the figure at around £7m and Goal.com, citing Dutch outlet De Telegraaf, reported €8m. The BBC's most recent reporting stands as the authoritative figure.
Driouech is a player who has taken a winding route to the top. Born in Haarlem, Netherlands, he came through the youth ranks at Heerenveen and made his professional debut there before spending three seasons with Excelsior in Rotterdam. He made 101 appearances and scored 16 goals for the club, earning a move to PSV in the summer of 2024.
Last season at PSV, Driouech scored nine goals and provided eight assists in 40 appearances. The numbers are healthy, though context matters: he started just once in PSV's eight Champions League outings and came off the bench 24 times in the Eredivisie, the Dutch top flight. He was a valuable option rather than an automatic starter.
Eligible for France and the Netherlands through birth and upbringing, Driouech chose Morocco, the land of his heritage. He represented them at Under-23 level and was part of the squad that won the Under-23 Africa Cup of Nations.
At Rangers, he would become the club's 10th signing of the summer and their second winger, following the arrival of Daisuke Yokota from German side Hannover. Chairman Andrew Cavenagh said on Monday that he expected three to five more players to arrive before the window closes, while a number could depart. That churn was already underway: midfielder Mohamed Diomande was sold to Turkish club Corum on Wednesday.
For Rangers supporters, Driouech's arrival adds pace and directness to a wide area that has been a priority this window. A player who can stretch defences and create chances, brought in from a club that competed in the Champions League group stage, is a statement of intent for a squad being reshaped under a new regime.
