Ferran Torres Completes PSG Move After Barcelona Accept €50m Deal
Ferran Torres is heading to Paris. Barcelona and PSG have closed a deal for the Spanish forward worth roughly €50 million (£42.7m), with a further €5m in performance-related bonuses, ending a negotiation that lasted barely three days.
The 26-year-old was given permission to skip training on Wednesday as the final paperwork came together, and he is expected to be confirmed as a PSG player before the week is out, according to Sport and L'Équipe.
The move came together quickly. PSG's opening offer of around €40m was rejected by Barcelona on Monday, per RMC Sport, but talks never stalled. Within 48 hours the two clubs had a verbal agreement, and by Thursday the transfer was definitively closed.
For Torres, it is the latest stop in a career that has already taken him from Valencia to Manchester City and on to Barcelona. He arrived at the Camp Nou in December 2021 on a five-year contract and, across last season, scored 21 goals in 49 appearances as Barcelona reclaimed the La Liga title. His international record is striking too: 25 goals in 65 caps for Spain, including the extra-time winner against Argentina this summer that delivered Spain's second men's World Cup.
PSG, fresh from beating Aston Villa 2-1 in the UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday, have now won the Champions League in back-to-back seasons. Adding a World Cup winner fits their ambition, but there is a practical reason too. Bradley Barcola, the young French forward, is wanted by Liverpool this summer, and Torres gives manager Luis Enrique cover and flexibility in attack. He is the second high-profile forward through the door this window after Maghnes Akliouche arrived from Monaco.
The familiar face in the dugout matters. Luis Enrique, himself a former Barcelona player and head coach, reportedly already has a plan for how to deploy Torres — a forward comfortable on either flank or through the middle, which suits a manager who likes positional interchange, the fluid swapping of positions that lets attackers find space in unexpected areas.
For Barcelona, the sale brings in funds at a time when the club continues to navigate well-documented financial constraints. Letting go of a 21-goal forward is never easy, but the fee — close to €55m with add-ons — represents solid value for a player who, at his best, was one of several important contributors rather than the undisputed centrepiece of the attack.
Torres is expected in Paris in the coming days to complete a medical and sign his contract. Once the ink is dry, a player who has lifted league titles in two countries and a World Cup in a third will try to add a Champions League hat-trick to his collection.
