Cinema Guild Acquires 'For The Moon,' Éric Baudelaire's Collaborative Documentary With Blind Students, Ahead of NYFF Premiere
Cinema Guild has picked up North American distribution rights for For The Moon (Car la Lune), a documentary by Paris-based artist and filmmaker Éric Baudelaire, ahead of its world premiere at the 64th New York Film Festival (Variety, 14 August 2026).
The film will screen in the festival's Currents section, a programme dedicated to contemporary, formally adventurous work (Film at Lincoln Center, 13 August 2026). Currents sits alongside the festival's Main Slate and Spotlights as one of NYFF's core programming strands, aimed at audiences tracking the outer edges of narrative and documentary cinema.
For The Moon runs 88 minutes and is a 2026 French production, presented in French with English subtitles (Film at Lincoln Center, 14 August 2026). What sets it apart is its method: Baudelaire made the film collaboratively with five visually impaired students at the National Institute for the Young Blind in Paris (Variety, 14 August 2026). The collaborators are Mèï Jendoubi, Jade Ebara Ossebi, Iris Fontanella, Crystal Lau Chang, and Kadiatou Diakite (Variety, 14 August 2026). Baudelaire, a U.S.-born, Paris-based filmmaker, has a body of feature work that spans over a decade. His previous films include The Anabasis of May and Fusako Shigenobu, Masao Adachi and 27 Years Without Images (2011), Letters to Max (2014), and A Flower in the Mouth (2022) (Variety, 14 August 2026). That track record places For The Moon within an established art-cinema practice rather than a first-timer's debut.

For audiences, the acquisition means a theatrical and eventual home-viewing release is now secured for North America — the United States and Canada. Cinema Guild, a New York-based distributor specialising in international and art-house cinema, has a slate that includes upcoming releases from South Korean director Hong Sangsoo: The Day She Returns and Nowhere to Lay My Eyes (Variety, 14 August 2026).
The 64th New York Film Festival's Currents section will also feature Ted Fendt's Foreign Travel and Ana Vaz's Hanabi, both as North American premieres (Film at Lincoln Center, 13 August 2026).
