Slipknot Part Ways With Turntablist Sid Wilson, the Band's Last Remaining Original-Mask Member Behind the Decks

Slipknot have parted ways with Sid Wilson, the turntablist and keyboardist known to fans as #0, who joined the Iowa metal band in 1998. The band announced the split in a since-deleted social media post: "Effective immediately, Slipknot will no longer be associated with Sid Wilson. We wish him the best in his future endeavors" (Rolling Stone).

A representative for Slipknot did not immediately return Rolling Stone's request for comment on the departure.

Wilson was the band's longest-serving turntablist, handling the scratches, samples and keyboard textures that sat underneath the nine-piece's guitar and percussion attack. He had been with the group since its late-nineties formation in Des Moines, recording on every Slipknot studio album.

The stated reason for the split remains unclear. TMZ reported on 31 July 2026 that Wilson was notified late that Friday afternoon he had been permanently removed from the band, and that what led to the decision was not known (TMZ). Louder Sound, reporting on 4 August 2026, wrote that Wilson was dismissed because of the way he treated his bandmates, citing what it described as a new report (Louder Sound). Neither account has been confirmed by the band.

Wilson's exit follows a period of turbulence in Slipknot's lineup. Craig Jones, the keyboardist-sampler who joined in 1996, left the band in 2023. Drummer Jay Weinberg departed the same year in what the band called a "creative decision." The last high-profile split before that was percussionist Chris Fehn in 2019, who left amid a lawsuit alleging he had been shorted on payments he claimed were owed to him.

In 2024, Slipknot sold a majority stake in its catalogue — including publishing and recording royalties, the income streams tied to songwriting and master recordings — to HarbourView Equity Partners, a firm that acquires music IP. Catalogue sales of this kind have become common across the industry, allowing artists to monetise legacy recordings while retaining touring and merchandise income.

Wilson had recently dealt with a serious health issue. Slipknot's official website reported in August 2024 that he had been in an accident and sustained burns across his body, and that he was recovering with his family while still planning to join the band on stage.

For fans, Wilson's departure removes one of the band's most visually distinctive performers — the #0 mask and stage-front DJ rig were part of Slipknot's identity since their 1999 debut album. The band has not yet named a replacement or commented on how Wilson's role will be handled in future performances.
