Marvel Sets X-Men Reboot for May 2028, Reveals Full Cast Led by Sadie Sink and Adam Driver
Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige has set a release date of May 5, 2028 for the MCU's X-Men movie, and announced a cast that pairs fresh faces with one of the most sought-after leading men in Hollywood, according to Variety.
Sadie Sink, known to streaming audiences from Stranger Things, will play Jean Grey. Kit Connor, from Heartstopper, takes on Cyclops. Samara Weaving steps in as Emma Frost, Inde Navarrette as Rogue, and Maya Boyd as Storm. Christopher Abbott, an indie-film fixture whose recent work includes Wolf Man, will play Professor X.
Adam Driver will play the villain Mr. Sinister — a geneticist obsessed with mutating the human species who has bedevilled the X-Men on the page since 1987.
This will be the first X-Men film produced under Marvel since Disney acquired 21st Century Fox in 2019, bringing the mutant characters and their entire on-screen library back in-house. Fox's two-decade X-Men run, from the original 2000 X-Men through Dark Phoenix in 2019, grossed over $6 billion worldwide before the rights reverted.
The mutant universe is not waiting until 2028 to arrive. Avengers: Doomsday, set for release on December 18, will feature a roster of legacy X-Men actors: Patrick Stewart as Professor X, Ian McKellen as Magneto, Kelsey Grammer as Beast, James Marsden as Cyclops, Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler, Rebecca Romijn as Mystique, and Channing Tatum's Gambit. That film, also directed within the Marvel framework, is expected to fold those characters into the main continuity before the 2028 reboot hands the roles to a new generation.
For fans, the casting answers a question that has lingered since the Fox acquisition closed. Marvel now has its new mutants, its villain, and a date on the calendar. The two-year gap between Doomsday and the X-Men film gives the studio room to bridge old and new — the older actors passing the baton on screen before Sink, Connor, and Driver take over.
