Twelve days in, it had already become the fastest movie to reach $700 million domestically, as The Hollywood Reporter noted on 12 August. By that point, Variety was projecting a $65–70 million third frame; the current $67 million estimate falls squarely in range.
Warner Bros. landed its new sci-fi thriller The End of Oak Street in second place on opening day. The film grossed $8.1 million on Friday across 3,446 North American theatres, with rival studios estimating about $18.7 million by Sunday, per Variety. David Robert Mitchell wrote and directed the picture, which follows a suburban family whose neighbourhood is suddenly transported to prehistoric times. The cast includes Anne Hathaway, Ewan McGregor, Maisy Stella, Christian Convery and Jordan Alexa Davis.
The End of Oak Street carries a production budget north of $80 million. It arrived with an 84% score on Rotten Tomatoes and a 'B' grade from CinemaScore exit polls — the latter a survey of opening-night audiences that studios watch closely as an early read on word of mouth.
Paramount's PAW Patrol: The Dino Movie took third place, earning $7.35 million on Friday from 3,545 cinemas and tracking toward roughly $20 million for the weekend. Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey held at No. 4 through its fifth weekend. Rounding out the top five, the documentary Katseye: Wild Hearts grossed an estimated $2.2 million on Friday from 724 theatres, with about $3.8 million projected through Sunday.
