Ranveer Singh's Apocalypse Thriller 'Pralay' Begins Filming in Mumbai
Ranveer Singh's end-of-the-world action thriller Pralay has started filming across live locations in Mumbai, with a crew drawn from India and abroad Variety. The production moved in front of cameras after several months of technically intensive pre-production. A significant portion of the film is also set to be shot in Australia, according to The Statesman The Statesman.
The film is an original story centred on survival as the world faces catastrophe, set against the backdrop of Mumbai. Singh headlines the cast and also serves as a producer through his banner, Maa Kasam Films. The producing team brings together three outfits: Ananya Birla's Birla Studios, Hansal Mehta and Sahil Saigal's True Story Films, and Maa Kasam Films. Birla Studios said the project reflects its interest in working with leading current names in Indian cinema, while True Story Films called the film a fit for its focus on unconventional storytelling Variety.
Behind the camera is director Jai Mehta, whose credits include co-directing the SonyLIV series Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story (2020) alongside Hansal Mehta, and directing the JioHotstar series Lootere (2024) Variety. The Mehta–Hansal Mehta connection now extends to the producing side of Pralay, with True Story Films among the backers.
Kalyani Priyadarshan plays a pivotal role described as action-packed, involving high-octane action sequences Times of India. She broke out with the film Lokah Chapter One: Chandra (2025) and is making her Bollywood debut opposite Singh in Pralay, per THR India THR India. Her schedule on the film will stretch well beyond the current Mumbai leg: she is expected to return to the Pralay sets in 2027 to begin filming the second leg of the project Times of India.
For Singh, Pralay is his next project after the Dhurandhar duology — Dhurandhar (2025) and Dhurandhar – The Revenge (2026) Variety. The shift from a two-part action franchise into an original catastrophe thriller puts him opposite a first-time Bollywood co-star and a director whose work so far has lived on streaming platforms.
What makes this stand out is the scale implied by the production footprint: live Mumbai locations, an Australian shoot to come, an international crew, and a timeline that carries into 2027. For a film that started as months of technical preparation, the camera is now rolling — and the calendar stretches out ahead of it.
