Gillian Anderson has revealed that Sony withdrew from distributing The Salt Path in the United States the very week a scandal erupted over alleged fabrications in the memoir on which the film is based. Anderson, who stars in the film as Ray, told Variety that the timing could not have been worse: the film's backers were in the final stages of signing a US distribution deal when the story broke. The paper alleged that the couple lost their house not because of a failed investment, as the memoir claims, but because Ray had embezzled money.
