Actress Hayden Panettiere died on Sunday, 17 August 2026, in Greenville, South Carolina. She was 36. Police said there were no signs of foul play or suspicious circumstances, and her representative told ABC7 the investigation into her death was "ongoing." Her cause of death has not yet been released, according to Variety.

Panettiere was found unresponsive at an apartment complex where she had been temporarily staying and was pronounced dead at the scene, NBC News reported. "Her curious spirit and how happy and joyous she is, because that's her memory, right?" Rodriguez told Variety. "I've got to tell you, man, I just can't stand how many young people are leaving us lately. It's disheartening, and it's making me think, 'What's going on?' It's not normal."

Rodriguez added: "I don't want to speculate about anything, but it's weird. Just in general, the amount and the volume of it since 2010 to now, it's a lot." The two shared the stage at the Sporting Club in Monte Carlo on 18 May 2010 for the 21st edition of the World Music Awards, which aired in the United States on MyNetworkTV.

Viola Davis, who starred alongside Panettiere in the 2016 drama Custody, shared an Instagram tribute. Bethany Joy Lenz, a friend and fellow star of One Tree Hill, posted a remembrance on social media with photos of the two together.
