National Theatre announces full cast for Anne-Marie Duff premiere 'Some Woman'

The National Theatre has announced full casting for the world premiere of Some Woman, a new play by Helen Edmundson starring BAFTA winner Anne-Marie Duff, running at the Dorfman theatre from 7 October to 21 November (WhatsOnStage).

Duff plays Julie Robson, a woman who makes a stand when an encounter at a station platform goes wrong. The role marks a return to the National Theatre for Duff, whose earlier credits there include Cordelia alongside Ian Holm's King Lear (National Theatre).

The full company around her spans nine named parts. Grace Doherty plays Ginny, Ioanna Kimbook plays Celia and DC Healy, Tobi King-Bakare plays Nathan, Tom McCall plays DS Woods, Daniel Millar plays Mr Dunster, Hannah Onslow plays Kate, Geoffrey Streatfeild plays Richard and Stephen Wight plays Mr Blake.

Blanche McIntyre directs. The creative team includes set and costume designer Robert Jones, lighting designer Natasha Chivers, movement director Lucie Pankhurst, sound designers Ben and Max Ringham, composer Therese Strasser, casting director Martin Poile, voice coach Jeannette Nelson, associate set designer Joseph Bisat Marshall and staff director Bellaray Bertrand-Webb (WhatsOnStage).

For Edmundson, Some Woman is her first new play in over a decade (British Theatre). McIntyre, a frequent director of classical and new work, is a regular collaborator at the National Theatre.

The Dorfman — the smallest of the three auditoriums on the South Bank, flexible in layout — seats roughly 450 depending on configuration, which keeps the space intimate for a play centred on a single woman's decision.

Preview performances run from 7 to 12 October, with tickets priced at £20, £30, £41 and £51. From the press night onward, Monday to Thursday evening and matinee seats cost £20, £47, £59 and £78. Friday and Saturday performances cost £25, £47, £59 and £78. A £4 per-order booking fee applies to phone and online sales, and is waived for National Theatre members.

Four early-evening performances, starting at 6.30pm, are scheduled for Thursday 22 October, Tuesday 3 November, Thursday 12 November and Tuesday 17 November.
