Whoop Opens Its Blood-Testing Service to Everyone, No Wearable Required

Whoop has removed the subscription and wearable membership requirement for its Advanced Labs blood-testing feature, opening the health screening service to anyone in the U.S. regardless of whether they own a Whoop device or maintain a paid membership (Engadget; BusinessWire).
The move separates Whoop's diagnostics business from its core hardware-and-membership model. Advanced Labs blood tests, processed through Quest Diagnostics, start at roughly $150 per panel and cover data across cardiovascular, metabolic, hormonal, and inflammatory health categories (Engadget). The service screens over 122 biomarkers in total, according to Whoop's product page (Whoop Shop).
Whoop also added the Galleri multi-cancer early detection test to its Advanced Labs portfolio (Engadget). The Galleri test is priced at $799 as a one-time cost, recommended annually, and is HSA/FSA eligible, meaning users with health savings or flexible spending accounts can use those pre-tax funds toward the purchase (Whoop The Locker).
The pricing structure for Advanced Labs is layered. The broader context here is a wearable company choosing to treat blood diagnostics as a standalone product line rather than a hardware lock-in feature. Whoop's core business has been the strap-plus-membership bundle: you buy the device, you pay a recurring fee, and the value proposition is continuous physiological monitoring. Advanced Labs was initially an extension of that ecosystem, requiring the wearable membership as a gateway. Removing that requirement changes the addressable market from "Whoop members who want blood work" to "anyone in the U.S. who wants blood work integrated with a consumer health platform."
The competitive landscape for direct-to-consumer blood testing is not new. Companies like InsideTracker and Function Health have operated in this space for years, and Quest Diagnostics itself serves as the processing backbone for several of them. Whoop's differentiation, if it holds, is the integration angle: blood biomarker data combined with the continuous physiological data that the Whoop strap captures for members who do carry the device — metrics like heart rate variability, sleep architecture, respiratory rate, and skin temperature. For non-members, the value proposition is narrower and looks more like a conventional direct-to-consumer blood-testing service with a polished app layer.
One thing worth flagging is the tension in the pricing tiers. Subscription tests cover 75+ biomarkers, while individual panel purchases appear to give access to the broader 122+ biomarker set. A consumer comparing the $199 annual subscription (one test, 75+ markers) against the $141 individual Comprehensive Health Panel would need to understand exactly which biomarkers are included in each to make an informed decision. The addition of Galleri is notable on its own. The test, developed by GRAIL, screens for signals across multiple cancer types through a single blood draw. At $799 annually and positioned as preventive screening rather than diagnostic confirmation, it sits at the high end of Whoop's pricing spectrum. HSA/FSA eligibility softens the cost for users with those accounts, though it remains a significant out-of-pocket expense for a test that is not yet standard in routine preventive care.
In this author's view, Whoop is testing whether a wearable brand can extend into clinical-adjacent diagnostics without requiring its hardware as the entry point. The strategy has internal logic: blood work provides periodic, deep-snapshot data that continuous monitoring cannot capture, and the two modalities are genuinely complementary. Whether consumers will pay Whoop prices for blood testing without the strap integration that justifies the brand premium is the open question. The answer will likely depend on how effectively Whoop can deliver actionable insights from lab results alone, without the continuous-data context that its wearable provides.
