The interoperability approach addresses code movement but not the surrounding CI/CD and automation infrastructure — the pipelines that build, test, and deploy code automatically — that keeps teams tied to a host. Origin's trajectory will likely depend on whether its AI-native features deliver enough workflow advantage to justify re-platforming the parts that do not transfer automatically.

Whether Origin captures meaningful share from GitHub will depend on execution over the coming months, but the opening conditions — a frustrated user base and an AI-first architecture arriving under new corporate ownership — give Cursor a credible entry point into a market that has had effectively one dominant player for over a decade.
