Brad Pitt Boards Wim Wenders' 14-Year Peter Zumthor Documentary Ahead of Venice Premiere
Brad Pitt has joined Wim Wenders' documentary From Inside Out – The Architecture of Peter Zumthor as an executive producer, with the film set to premiere out of competition at the 2026 Venice Film Festival (The Hollywood Reporter).
The documentary, shot over 14 years in 3D, traces the career of Pritzker Prize-winning Swiss architect Peter Zumthor — from his early family homes in the Alps to the new Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), completed in 2026 (The Hollywood Reporter). At 114 minutes, it surveys landmark Zumthor projects including the Therme Vals spa in Switzerland, the Kolumba Museum in Cologne, and the Steilneset Memorial in Norway (ArchDaily; The Hollywood Reporter).
Pitt's involvement is rooted in a long-standing admiration for Zumthor's work. He was a major advocate for Zumthor's controversial LACMA design and spoke at a decisive LA County hearing in 2019 in support of the project (The Hollywood Reporter). The film opens with a "Brad Pitt presents" credit.
His role, though,, is strictly a creative endorsement. Pitt has no financial interest in the film, and his production company Plan B was not involved in making it (The Hollywood Reporter). From Inside Out was produced by Wenders' Road Movies and DCM. HanWay Films is handling world sales — the company that shops distribution rights to international buyers at festivals and markets.
Wenders is one of cinema's most established documentary directors. His previous nonfiction films include Pina, a 3D portrait of choreographer Pina Bausch, and Buena Vista Social Club, which followed the ageing Cuban musicians of the same name (The Hollywood Reporter). From Inside Out was shot in 3D, the same format Wenders used for his 2023 documentary Anselm, about German painter Anselm Kiefer (The Hollywood Reporter).
The film also delves into a chapter of Zumthor's career that never reached completion: his design for the Topography of Terror museum in Berlin, a project abandoned after years of work due to cost overruns (The Hollywood Reporter). Before the feature took shape, Wenders and Zumthor had collaborated on a short film for the Venice Architecture Biennale (Road Movies).
From Inside Out was developed under the working title The Secret of Places (Road Movies).
Venice's out-of-competition slots are reserved for high-profile films that the festival wants to showcase outside its prize race. For a documentary about architecture, premiering on the Lido puts it in front of the global press and the international buyers who decide how widely it will reach cinemas in the months ahead.
