Elijah Blue Allman's Wife Asks Judge to Reject Cher's Conservatorship Bid and Give Her Priority Instead
The wife of Cher's son Elijah Blue Allman has formally asked a California judge to reject Cher's conservatorship petition and give her priority to manage her husband's affairs if a conservator is appointed.
Marieangela King Allman filed the opposition in Los Angeles County on her own, without a lawyer, according to Rolling Stone. In the filing, she argued that Elijah Blue Allman is in no immediate danger while he is confined in New Hampshire, and she stated that he "vehemently opposed" Cher's earlier effort to be named his conservator — a proceeding in which Cher's initial emergency bid was denied and the case was delayed by Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Jessica A. Uzcategui in January 2024.
Cher first filed for conservatorship of her son in late 2023, citing severe mental health and substance abuse issues and describing him as "gravely disabled" with his "drug dependency at its worst." She sought sole control of his finances and argued that Marieangela King Allman should not be considered as conservator. Her current petition asks the court to place a professional fiduciary — a court-appointed manager — in charge of Elijah Blue Allman's finances.
The backdrop to the filing is a string of arrests in New Hampshire. Elijah Blue Allman was arrested on 27 February at St. Paul's School in Concord on suspicion of trespassing, criminal threats, and simple assault. Two days later he was arrested again in Windham, after a woman called police saying she was hiding in a closet because someone had broken into her home. At an April hearing, Cher's lawyer told the court that Elijah Blue Allman had travelled to New Hampshire and gone on a spree that led to those arrests.
In a separate New Hampshire proceeding, Elijah Blue Allman's brothers — Devon Allman and Chaz Bono — sought and received appointment as his guardians, an order the court issued subject to the posting of a bond. Marieangela King Allman says that move happened without her knowledge or notice.
She also told the court she dismissed divorce proceedings against Elijah Blue Allman earlier this year at his urging. The couple had previously filed for divorce twice; Marieangela King Allman had filed her second divorce petition in April 2025 and moved to dismiss it this June. She also claimed in a prior court filing that in 2022 Cher hired four men to remove Elijah Blue Allman from a hotel room he was sharing with his wife.
A conservatorship, the legal arrangement at the centre of this dispute, gives a court-approved individual authority over another adult's financial or personal decisions when the court finds that person unable to manage their own affairs. Cher's request for a professional fiduciary, rather than a family member, would place that authority in the hands of an independent manager.
The Los Angeles court has not yet ruled on the pending petition.
