Train and Barenaked Ladies' 2026 Tour Features Sons on Stage — A Family Affair Under the Summer Sky
A 14-year-old is trading guitar solos with a seasoned lead guitarist every night on Train's summer 2026 tour — and he happens to be the frontman's son.
Rock Monahan, the youngest of Train frontman Pat Monahan's three children, has been a fixture on the "Drops of Jupiter: 25 Years In the Atmosphere Tour" since its launch. The Seattle-born teenager sings and plays guitar on a cover of Journey's "Stone in Love," swapping solos with lead guitarist Butch Walker. He also performs Dirty Heads' "Vacation" — a track Pat Monahan appeared on in a 2021 version — and Train's own "Save Me, San Francisco" (Billboard).
This is not Rock's first time under the lights. He has been making cameo appearances on stage with Train since he was seven years old, according to the same Billboard report. The 2026 tour, though, gives him a more prominent nightly role.
The "Drops of Jupiter: 25 Years In the Atmosphere Tour" is a 36-date North American run that began in July with stops including West Palm Beach, Florida on July 8 and Tampa on July 10 (Billboard). The tour covers major cities such as New York and Los Angeles, with dates including Pine Knob Music Theatre on August 5 (313 Presents), and wraps on August 30 in Auburn, Washington (Barenaked Ladies).

The family thread runs through both bands. Barenaked Ladies' Ed Robertson has his own son on the road: 26-year-old Lyle Robertson, who plays guitar, bass, keyboards and sings backing vocals as a utility player. His role began as an on-call substitute for bassist Jim Creeggan, whose father passed away the previous month. Lyle had already played with the band during November and December on the CPKC Holiday Train — a nearly five-week run — before stepping into the summer tour full-time (Billboard).
With Lyle Robertson added, Barenaked Ladies are performing as a five-piece for the first time since original member Stephen Page left the band in 2009 (Billboard).
Barenaked Ladies have also announced a Yuletide Ride 2026 UK tour for December 2026 (Barenaked Ladies).
For audiences, the father-son performances add a layer of warmth to an already nostalgic bill — Train celebrating a quarter-century of "Drops of Jupiter," Barenaked Ladies back at five, and two young musicians earning their spot on a big stage.
